Why Do So Many People Hate the Police?

What is it about cops that gets so many people's panties in a bunch? If someone is willing to risk their life everyday to keep me safe, then I'm going to damn well support them, but I seem to be in a shrinking minority, especially with people in my age group and younger (20-30 and under).

Please enlighten me on why you believe (or don' believe) that cops deserve our support.

After having six guns pointed at me and being handcuffed wrongfully, I think I have a reason to dislike police. However, I have made friends with the cops who come into my shop, and they're not bad. In general anyway.

Same reason that teenage brats hate their parents.

The police keep us alive. If they weren't there, almost all of the punks who say they think all cops should die would be dead themselves. Usually they're worthless individuals who don't undestand that they would be dead if the police weren't there to stop crime.

This isn't always the case however, as some people just don't care for cops because they had a bad experience with a corrupt officer, and that soured their opinion of every single one.

I love the police if you couldn't tell anymore, they save so many lives every year. Every so often some do screw up and cause an innocent person to die, but those are either terrible accidents, or incompetent performance on the officer's part. I know someone who is a police officer, and the shit they have to deal with every day is 10 times that of anything you will ever deal with (unless you join law enforcement, in which case yo uhave my full respect).

Having had the justice system misused against me has darkened my view of some of the police. Some seem to follow the rules so hard they forget to think about what they are doing. Nevermind that what you are accused of makes no sense and the guy chaged his story three times, he has a yes man backing his story, 2 vs 1 I lose.

Mostly I think it is due to a few stupid moves on the part of the police and the fact the police are the physical version of the man. I think unless you have a story of being screwed over by them it mostly comes down to them being the one part of the government you can see and you see them often (but never when you want to).

Cops are naturally intrusive. Especially if they have quotas.

We just don't like dealing with them.

Because:
A) People are stupid
B) The Media likes blast every isolated case of police brutality or anything like it all over the place.
C) Rap music. Rappers are constantly slamming the police. You can't tell me that a few dipshit wannabe gangstas don't pick up on that.

I'm a bit confused as to why people hate the police as well. Every police officer I've ever met has been nice and reasonable and generally not the kind of person you'd want to hate. The only reasons I can see for someone hating the police would be if they've either had a run in with a bad cop, been screwed by the justice system, or are a criminal.

I hate their mustaches, and their donuts, and how sometimes the can judge u without knowing also the racial profiling, theres alot of reasons why i hate cops. but meh, i dont get into trouble anyways. Im a good boy =P

You can't ask the world from the police since they are only human that has to abide the law...

But, they could become more efficient. Very much so. However in general, only people treated wrongly by police individuals have reasons to give 'em hate.
Others are just narrow-sighted fools.

I've also noticed that a lot of people seem to be proclaiming their loss of respect for the police in general, especially on the internet. Often it seems that it's just the typical following the crowd (Hey, these guys hate the cops, I should too!) or the standard "Screw authority/The Man!" kind of deal that almost every person goes through at some point.

I'll tell you why people hate the cops, because the media doesn't report on all the good they do, just the mishaps, unless they catch a serial killer or something, but breaking up a domestic violence call? Thats not news worthy.

Plus you see videos of cops beating up people, usually those people deserved it, like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4r1o5WE-Go, some people might see that as racist, I see it as resisting arrest.

Well, I&#x0418 THЭ ИE&#x0429 RЦSSI&#x0414 cops are not that different from criminals they're supposed to fight, with corruption and police brutality running amok. That's why i, personally, don't like them. In Western countries though, where policemen are mostly decent folk... i don't know.

Oh snap! I think that's the reason. They either hate the system for mistreating them (which is justified) or because it's "hip" to rebel against establishment (which is NOT justified - as i've already said, your police is actually pretty decent).

It's currently "in" to hate cops, although I can't imagine why. Every police officer I've talked or interacted with was friendly and diplomatic.

Of course, I think "sticking it to the man" is immature and stupid, so that may color my opinion. When I read of the man who ripped up his $70 speeding ticket and threw it on the ground and immediately got a $250 littering ticket, I laugh.

I don't think people hate cops, they hate what they represent, i.e. people telling us "no stop that because you aren't supposed to". Certain cops can be dickish but not all are.
