Why do you defend/love gaming?

It's an interesting question that I've been unable to keep off my mind lately. Why do you love/defend gaming? Give personal reasons. I love gaming because it gives me a chance to explore an intangible world that will never exist in reality. What's yours?

Escapism and to have fun in unrealistic environments.
Plus the whole war scenes in games are just outright fun.

Other than that I defend gaming mainly because there are some games that actually make you think rather than mindlessly mash buttons.

Probably the same reason people defend/love social drinking, cigarettes, mustang ranch, gambling, etc.
I like playing video games. I don't care if other people don't or agree to it.

I need something to pass the time. (Something other than the number 1 activity everyone always thinks computers are only useful for)

Also games are fun, they allow me to use my mind, rather than doing something dull, like watching television or reading my entire book collection again...

It's fun is the perfect answer really. I do fun things simply because they are fun, having fun makes me happy, and being happy sure as hell beats being sad or bored, problem solved.

It's a good, clean hobby and much more social than people give it credit for. It brings social outcasts together under one roof and allows us to make friends amongst each other. It's because of being a gamer that I made friends quickly here in America when I came here while the rest were too busy hating me for being Muslim.
