I'm having trouble convincing my mother that a game can hold it's merit as art against literature and film, for years she just dismissed that games simply can't be art and that I only play them for shits and giggles. And even when I try to convince her to just try one she always say "No, I don't want to play, they're too violent.'
So help me out here Escapist so my mother can see past bloody COD, why do you game and what games have felt like art to you?
For me personally I game because I didn't have to many friends when I was little, so I liked that I could occupy my time by escaping into another world, where, unlike books or film, I could influence future events and make myself feel a part of the world.
As for games that I think are art:
Portal - The moment I pulled of a fling, I knew this game was gonna stick with me for a while.
Braid - This is just crazy good. Get it.
Wind Waker - I loved the heck out of this game. And the visuals are pretty damn awesome.
Bioshock - Never have I encountered a more atmospheric game. Add in my fear of ocean and this was an awesome game full of real emotional highs and lows.
