Why do you go on forums, and...

The main reason I go on forums is because I like to see all the various interesting replies, even though I don't really get anything from forums (and tend to give up on them after a while, aswell). Do you stay for the post count, or like to just have something to do?
Another thing; I seem to be the kind of forum member that is ignored even though I stay within posting rules; hardly anyone replies to me, nobody listens that much, wondering why--with alot of members on the site, why are some people completely ignored? On sites where talking is the main focus, it's quite difficult to be immersed in any discussion when nobody replies.
Not trying to rant, just want to hear your thoughts. :)

re: ignoring, it's not so much real ignoring, i.e. them reading stuff and not replying to anything; no, people just skim the OP and reply with their opinion as if it was the most interesting thing to be put in the internet

the few times there is a "discussion", it's no more than 3 or 4 people going back and forth about how wrong one of them is about a minor point that is hardly on-topic after the third post

so yeah, I don't really like forums much anymore, but I still visit 3 of them simply to pass the time between breakfast and starting up my first game of the day...

Wait, why would anyone stay for the post count? What does that even mean?

Anyways, I hang around now to kill time and when I can be bothered, post a review.

Typically it's for the community. There's usually a couple of people I like to read the posts of and every once in a while someone starts up a thread I think looks interesting or is on something I know a bit about.

As for you being ignored: The community doesn't really target out people to just ignore. The reality is that the vast majority of posts get ignored in threads as people only really read the OP and maybe the first few replies/ last few replies. This is particularly true for very long threads like that Extra Credits thread where reading the whole thread becomes a chore.

Of course, this does mean that posting more increases your chances of someone discussing something with you, but that brings its own problems as well.

I've a few friends here, though I mainly talk to them on Im chat now. Usually as a way to kill some time, but sometimes there's a good discussion going on, and I like quoting people to get a conversation started.

I don't know why I come here. Mostly out of habit I guess. I really ought to stop as the forums can often suck the life out of me.

Usually to talk to my friends here and kill some time. And to look for topics I find interesting when I feel like poking my head out of the sand.

Mainly to kill downtime. Definetly not for the post count. Only about a third of what I start writing actually gets posted.

Heh, I'm really starting to like these forumes because the people on them don't seem at all too shabby. I feel like that as well sometimes but I think it's just all in our heads :p
It's really interesting, I'm potentially getting to know people I guess plus it gives me something to help pass the time. :D

Aww, that's sad. Have an internet hug!

OT: Sometimes things make me laugh, sometimes I see someone making a joke I can expand on, sometimes there's interesting information in a thread and I want to find out more about it. And sometimes I just want to throw my opinion (and/or what the last video game character I killed was) into a given thread.
