Strange you should post this question... I was just reading an interesting piece about MMORPG addiction: http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/gateway_addiction.html.

Because I'm sexy
Too sexy for your shirt? So sexy it hurts?

Play em because I quite like the people in my WoW guild.

it makes the voices stop.

Actually, it makes the voices start, seeing as I usually play to have a medium with which to while away in when I talk to buddies over skype, vent or whatever.

Personally, having played World of Warcraft since European Open Beta, I find myself playing for the thrill of raiding (thrill-seeking), but also for the people I know online (some of whom I also know in real life), but am unable to see regularly due to distance or similliar.
In the latter case, the game itself is basically a platform allowing you to do the online equivalent of sitting at a table eating some cookies and drinking some cofee while talking.

I don't play MMORPGS, I absolutly hate what they do to people. For example a good friend of mine (in his late teens) plays a games called Runescape, its absolutly pathetic, its all he ever does, and whats even worse - is that is a kids game, and all he does is click on the same thing over and over and over..

I just don't get it....

Runescape is a bad example - it fucking sucks. Excuse my french, but I only use such language because it fucking sucks.

My group of friends scattered across the country for college, and the only way to keep in touch was WoW or Facebook. Lesser of two evils.

I just like playing with other people. I'm not one of those freakchildren who play the game all damn day just so that I can show off my armor and feel good about myself by calling everybody else in the game a "n00b".

I could never get into mmos, even though my friends tried to suck me in. I have more of the lets go out till the sun comes up type of personality. That's not to say i don't enjoy other types of entertainment such as anime, movies, and speeding.

I originally played WoW because heck, you know, never played an MMO before.

I'm still playing these days mostly because I really like some of the people I met there, so it's a nice way to keep in touch, with the benefit of a game to play too :p

Play a lot less now than I used to though, getting better acquainted with my xbox instead.

Boredom, and I don't feel like playing games that involve thinking.
