Why does destruction look so beautiful?

I recently play Resistance 2 and I couldn't help but be in awe from the beauty of all the destruction. This game is one of many that you just go Wow, whether it be the sinking city of Rapture or the flying body parts of the Locust after you stick a grenade on them. Destruction seems to trigger something in your brain ( or at least mine ) a form of pure beauty. But why is that?

Let me know what you think about this. Do you find destruction beautiful or do you have other feelings about it?

There's something almost majestic about something so grand, that's brought so many different emotions to people simply through the awe of its presence being brought to a slow, tumbling fall from grace...or, y'know...something.

Because destruction mostly equals pain inflicted on others and alot of people like that...

It depends on the context i would say...

I do, but only when it is not hurting somoene. For example, I blew up a Spartan Halo 3 edition 360 with all the swag, an account with recon armour before it became popular and easy to get it, and the halo 3 game inside using black powder and road flare powder.

It was magnificent... *tear*

Totally. I think it's all about just wanting to see something burn(don't take that too literally). Especially as the creator, when you can destroy what you made in a matter of seconds can help to tame your God complex.

id say that it is beautiful because it removes all of the prior states inhibitions. It offers a new beggining, endless opportunities, a chance to wipe away the past. That may be one of the reasons why the fallout games are popular, because everything familiar is gone, only a vague semblence to the past remains, your have the opportunity to do anything you can imagine, in theory.

I never really notice beauty in envirnoments or anything unless it's trying to desperately be noticed since I'm usually too busy shooting things, though I did enjoy slitting a guy's throat so badly I nearly decapitated him in one game.

I think it has something to do with fragility. All this stuff you see as so solid, crumbling and decayed. It's got a sort of morbid beauty to it.

Or, at least, I would assume. I lack the ability to recognise beauty. Everything is the same to me.

Beauty in it self is subjective and very personal. If destruction is beautiful to you just embrace it and go visit some ruins.

I myself find the look of dilapidated and abandoned structure intriguing.

Virtual destruction allows you to do something you in life could possibly never achieve: Look at what was once a huge skyscraper and say 'Sir, you with the technology and centuries of architectural development, fall to a mere human'. That's why.

Look up at me from the ruins of your castle more like.
it's a sand castle. I'm not inside it. I hate it when people do that though, it's a completely unprovoked attack on someone else, for no reason other than to make themselves feel good or superior.
