Not to criticizes the reviews, but its purpose on the site.

It makes years now that I have been a reader of the Escapist magazine and some of its columns, even so only became a former member of the community some months ago, and it kind puzzled me the fact of it have an specific space to anime content.

What does the theme have to with the rest of the site content? I understand that the site tries to innovate itself, like it including movies reviews ( I was very 'worried' when the first got out), but I frequent the site because it was focused on the game industry, and it 'worries' me that it stops to be...

p.s: Sorry for the bad English ( hurry )

Anime is pretty huge, and popular among people of our stereotype. Therefore, donating plenty of space to accomidate for this makes sense. It's not like it really affects us either way, it's just more stuff for us to look at after all.

Because a good portion of the site watches Anime. Heck one of the biggest groups of the site is dedicated solely to it (608 members as of now). We aren't just a gaming only website, we refer to all things that may make up our interests.

a lot of gamers really like anime so it makes sense to me to put anime reviews as part of a game site

Because Anime is probably in the top 10 things the internet exists for. Number one obviously being Porn.

When did it stop exactly?

Anime is still a small percentage of the content, and it never even gets featured.

Lots of people here like it, for some odd reason. I can't stand it personally, but then, the site isn't tailored to me.

It will never stop being focussed on video games. However, the site has branched into movies, tabletop gaming, anime, new science...

Basically anything conected to the stereotypical nerd. I wouldn't worry about dilution of content; the new stuff is administered by new people most of the time, and the Escapist grows. Why not take a look at some of the other content? Just because you came for the video games doesn't mean you can only look at that (if it did, most of us would be stuck watching Yahtzee all week!).

People like it, plus you can't deny that it has a huge impact on the Japanese and sometimes the American game industry, thus is does have to do with games in a way.

I agree with you, it's not related at all.

The "lots of gamers are into it" argument just doesn't fly. More gamers reading this probably like food or heavy metal than Anime but The Escapist doesn't review restaurants or the new Slayer album.

Honestly to give you a answer, it shouldn't have anime at all. However i imagine that all websites do like the idea of expanding abit in other directions. Similiar to how a magazine about fishing my have a colum about, I don't know, cooking. Doesn't really fit with the theme bu they just decided to add it on.

In addition there is the fact that it is easy enough to avoid anime if you want here, unlike the magazine example you don't feel cheated if it turns out what you paided for got you an irrelvant article.

So should it be here Probaly not. am I thankful it is? Definetly.

I would also like to say i agree with this. Even though i enjoy anime (see avatar <--) i understand that it's just not related to gaming, and i have to wonder why the hell it's even up there. You could argue that anime and japanese culture as a whole have inspired a whole cadre of games and art styles, but it's still an entirely different clique that doesn't really belong here on a site to do with games and films.

If we're going to stick with the theme, let's stick with the theme. Let's not get picky off of origin and development style.

And what do news stories about the porn industry, random decorations, DIY projects, vehicle conversions, comic conventions, action figures or books have to do with gaming?

All these things have been reported on by the news team in the last 3 months. The site has never been "just about games", there is always some other stuff thrown in there, it provides variety and may interest some people.

Daily drop is a good example of this. It's only relation to gaming is that it is produced by the LRR crew, Doesn't mean it has no place here though. If it's not for you, don't look.

It's because the Escapist is expanding to focus on wider aspects of popular entertainment culture as well as just video games. Anime is popular with the nerd culture, hence it's good to have reviews.

I'm delighted they do regular movie reviews and personally I'm all for them expanding, more content for ME ^_^ although it would be nice if they scaled back LRR's involvement at the moment, cause much as I love LRR and occasionally Unskippable I think they're spreading themselves too thin.
