This will be a long rant:
Over the year(s?) that it has been out I have slowly started to hate MW2 more and more. I have presented most of these arguments to my brothers who merely shrug them off. Here's my biggest ones:
The melee system: let me tell you something, if I am carrying a large caliber LMG and I turn the corner to see someone standing close, am I retarded for opening up my MACHINE GUN on that person instead of mashing down on the right thumbstick? Also, I want you to strap a knife to your chest and see how fast you can whip it out and stab someone, it's like playing a ninja how fast they can whip them out. Okay, next:

The maps: MW is most guilty of the greatest sin all modern combat simulators fall prey to: Grey or brown, boring maps. Whether it's a desert or a russian trainyard or a goddamn junkyard (which they have done twice with the new map pack ffs) there is not one map there that looks appealing. Jesus christ in these next map packs they are actually bringing back Vacant, can you imagine a more grey and boring map? Which also brings me to...

The map packs and (or more precisely) the nerve of activision:
When i heard that my brother spent that much money on five, again, grey and boring maps I had the urge to get him f**king sectioned. Who the hell does activision think it is charging that much? And now i hear that they plan on making call of duty multiplayer a paid subscription, all the while firing any infinity ward employees that look at them funny.

So let me say what I have been building up to: Fuck you activision and Infinity ward. You have successfully created a dedicated, elitist, arsehole-ish fanbase that will blindly fork out any amount for the most uninmaginative content to ever top mainstream gaming.

Welcome to the Escapist!

Anyway, about your rant. I think that Modern Warfare 2 has many problems that are much worse than the ones you hated the most (such as the spawn system). Your hate is somewhat misguided, I suppose.

Has all this hate every really made you happier? There's a perfect line somewhere during American History X...

Anyway. Don't let it bother you. Actavision are jerks, but I mean there haven't been that many arrogant companies that haven't gotten their comeuppance at one point or another.

I mostly agree, but I still kinda enjoy that game as one of my "guilty pleasures". I'm never buying a map pack though. I got it free with COD4 so unless they change it to free or if they give me shipment (maybe) I might buy it.

Ok first off, There is ONE map that is decent and that is the carnival one. Second That paid subscription thing is riddikulus.

You call that a long rant?

This is a long rant!

Also, your arguments kinda suck mayor ass.

So your argument is that Melee combat is better than firepower when in Melee distance, and that you don't like the brown/gray-ish nature of the maps.

Which means that to fix the Melee combat according to you we should simply take away melee combat entirely, and for the maps we paint over all the brown and gray. No, don't fix all the perks that make the melee overpowered or change the maps for better gaming, just take away the melee entirely and paint over the unbalanced maps so they are more colorful.

Bailout isn't brown and grey. I don't have the other maps so I can't comment on them but there are a few non brown and grey maps, terminal is another.

You are a bit of a fool for not "mashing down the the analogue stick", the speed you "whip it out" is unreal but it's nothing new.

Do you think dvd's are overpriced? I assume not, it's about £20 for about 1.5 hours and while you can watch it again nothing will ever change.

Price of the map packs £10 lasts for as long as the servers are open or you play the game and it's different every time, people may use the same tactics but they will never be in the place all the time and you might dominate the map one game and be dominated the next time you play.

So which is better value for money? It's all about what you compare it to, compare it to other DLC and it's a little high, compare it to DVDs and it's better value.

Alright, lurk more or get fucked. This thread has been done to death. Yes, a lot of people hate MW2, you have now voiced it and you can shut up. Sorry, not the nicest welcome to the Escapist but please, lurk more.
Give the kid a break, it wasn't a great post, but rather than telling him to take a hike how about we point him toward the magic of the search function.

OT: Yes, it has a shit load of problems. 90% of the problems stem from the players, and unfortunately you can't do a thing about this on consoles (or, with MW2, at all). I used to play a whole lot of CS, and when you logged on to a server, you were served with it's rules. Servers that had a mod/host would enforce these rules strictly - most infringements got permabans. There were problems with hacks, but when you played on some of the more heavily regulated servers, life was good. No .50 sniper was a common rule, no auto-shotgun was another - a good community will FIX game issues given the right tools (namely Dedicated Servers). A community that cannot fix these issues have three kinds of member; those who delight in using these exploits (Commando-Marathon-Lightweight-TacKnife), those who use those tactics just to keep up with the first group, and the rest who refuse to out of some kind of misplaced elitism. I play bad company, but EA dooms Australia to a state of constant lag, so no matter which I play I still feel hard done by.

I think Battlefield 1943 owns every other WW II / Modern FPS multi-player out there.

- Balanced weapons (with a bit of recoil!)
- Good maps (with color!)
- Balanced classes (and not too many of them!)
- Meaningless leveling system (like it actually matters!)

I don't like it because I realised that I wasn't having fun with it, and it was repetitive and aimless. I stopped and am now playing better games (mostly from Valve).

I think IW gave it to them already. They may find it hard to extort a game with no programmers.

I wouldn't join this bandwagon if I were you; the wheels have fallen off.

Most complaints stem from the players, and I don't rate the maps one as a legitimate complaint (they're not bad. Seriously, forgive me if I'm wrong, but this is earth. It would look ridiculous if everything was bright. Are you 5 or something?).

You know, the only reason people like you (yes, you) hate on this so much is because it's popular. If it was some obscure little thing you'd be all "Guys, check out this game! It's totally the best game ever and I'm so alternative, commoners." Accusing it's fanbase of being elitist is the most hypocritical thing I've heard in a while, well done.

We get it, it's flawed. Show me a perfect game and I'll show you my ass.

I agree, the problems listed are pretty much small fry's to the other issues in game.

One of the worst problems I believe is the strength of killstreaks which players have become so reliant upon changing the style of the game into one that favours camping.

I quit playing MW2 a while ago and I pretty much got bored of it because of how easy it was to let killstreaks play the game for you.

Where the hell do you buy your DVD's? You need to find a new store...I haven't seen a DVD sold for over £10 in a long time...

I also don't remember a DVD that has left me as frustrated as Modern Warfare 2...

So which is better value for money? It's all about what you compare it to, compare it to other DLC and it's a little high, compare it to DVDs and it's better value.
Depends, do you value quality or quantity?

I hate MW2 for stupid design ideas, such as the spawn system and overpowered perks. I hate the maps because they all designed to guarantee being shot from behind

That was a few years actually price has dropped a bit, around my area there usually about £12-15. I usually go to HMV, I know online is usually cheaper but I like carrying it home, it builds excitement.

Value for money.

You make very excellent points and I completley agree with all of them except one:

A good friend of mine was on patrol in Iraq back in '06, clearing civilian homes, when an insurgent jumped out from around a corner with an AK-47, and what did my friend do?
In about a second he whipped out his knife and got the guy in a half-nelson. Then he stabbed him between the ribs and had to watch the life leave his eyes as the guy struggled.
That was his first kill.

So to answer your question, no, you're not retarded for opening up your LMG on a guy, but don't pretend to know what it's like because you play lots of videogames.
