For those of you who were unaware (which is probably, oh, five of you or so), Devil May Cry is getting a reboot/prequel game of sorts, and in an attempt to make Dante cooler (I presume that's the thinking behind this, anyway) they've dyed his hair black and had him take up smokin' a cig.
Now, all questionable cosmetic changes aside, I find the fact that the DMC team's idea of making someone look cooler is having them take up smoking to be wildly outdated. A character who smoked was cool, oh, fifteen years ago. I think it shows just how desperate and out of touch this reboot may end up being that that's their idea of shorthand for cool.
Thoughts?
Side note: It's possible that the smoking habit was given to show younger Dante as desperate to be cool or reckless and rebellious in the only way a 17-year old idiot would, but I find that somewhat doubtful that this serves legitimate character development.
