Why no love for Thane?

I've seen a very small fan base for Thane Krios thus far, off of Mass Effect 2.

I'm curious as to why... I thought he was by far one of the most compelling and badass characters in the game myself.

Seriously, he's like Agent 47 with scales.

Anyone care to explain the lack of love? D=

Almost everyone likes him, but compared to Mordin, Legion, and Wrex he is small potatoes.

Maybe because hes going to die soon. I liked him though, though his loyalty mission wasnt that compelling. In my opinion, rather average. As a character he is good, but his story wasnt up to par with the character himself.

Still good.

Lack of love? I haven't met a guy yet who doesn't like Thane. I mean, his entrance alone officially makes him a badass, how can't you love that?

There's a guy named Thane at my school, and everyone likes him...

(No I haven't played Mass Effect 2. I desperately want to.)

I hardly see anyone mentioning though, that entrance alone makes him more enjoyable than legion. o.o

I have yet to get far enough to meet Thane, but from what I know about him, he'll be joining my squad along with grunt.

Maybe because he's in the second set of characters, so they had less time to like him.

He was interesting I guess. Just a little too doom and gloom for my taste.

There isn't? If so I can imagine it's only because there's a bigger fanbase for other characters like Tali and Garrus. I don't think there are many people who dislike Thane, I loved him. But I suppose some people might see him as a bit of a depressing character, so they would probably prefer Garrus who is familiar and is much more fun to talk to this time around.

"You know me, I always like to savour the last shot before popping the heat sink........wait, that metaphor just went somewhere horrible."

Although I don't keep tabs with the ME2 character fanbases, I think if there is less acclaim for Thane, I think it comes in four parts:

1) Thane comes late in the game, so you don't have as much interaction with him as you would with Mordin or Tali.

2) His character is stretched over lot of points. He's an assassin... with guilt problems... and family issues... and he has freakish flashbacks. He's a lot to ingest for the short time you have him.

3) For being such a kickass assassin and being hyped up in nearly every single promo piece before the game's release, once you use him, he really doesn't bring anything insanely incredible to the team.

4) This might be minor, but if you think about it, in Thane's intro and loyalty mission... he really doesn't show up a lot. The intro mission, you meet him at the end, the loyalty mission, a lrge part of it he is simply talking to you through the communicator.

Just my assumptions.

He's got a HUGE fanbase for the time he's been exposed. As far as the Love Interest fans go the totem pole is thus:

Tali
Garrus
EDIT: *Wrex*
Thane
Mordin
(Human LI)

--Tali's fanbase is like a fucking cult (which...I'm sort of...supporting-DON'T JUDGE ME!! *cries loudly*), and Garrus is pretty much Tali for women, at least in the sense that he's an alien (more alien looking than Tali, but great voice) and he's FINALLY bone-able in ME2.

Thane has a growing fanbase. It's just that he can't possibly contend with the ever loyal and slightly obsessive Tali/Garrus fans which arose during ME2's three year development. Still, Fish-lips is still much higher on the pole of fandome than any of the human Love Interests.

honestly i like thane alot, i think his backstory could have been a little better done, and the mission might have been a bit better, i dont mind that it was his son, but i would have preferred to go on an assasination with him and be able to pull off the headshot (renegade) or to stop him from doing it ( paragon)

personally, due to being able to understand and find them likeable my top are :

garrus
miranda
legion
thane
zaeedd(he reminds me of jango fett..which i am a huge fan of)
mordin

after that its just a mix up, i like all of the characters though

I loved Thane up until the point he told me he was terminally ill. that really ruined it for me.

If he wasn't about to die, people could have gotten more invested in him. I really liked him though, I thought he was very well developed.

Huge fan of Thane here. I find all the religious aspects of his character very interesting and the interaction between the Drell and the Hanar to be equally intriguing.

His mission may not have been great gameplay-wise, but story-wise, I thought it was one of the better ones; certainly better than Jacob's.

What I don't get is all the Mordin love. I don't dislike the character, but apparently he has a pretty big following, which I just cannot understand. He's so unforgivable in my eyes that it's hard to want to get along with him.

EDIT: Missed some posts talking about how Thane is terminally ill so that keeps people from getting invested in him. It's probably a good point, but Mordin is pretty old for a Salarian, who typically only live to be 40 or so, meaning that he too is close to death. Maybe because it isn't explicitly stated as such it slips by, but it's something to think about.
