Why should I play World of Warcraft?

I played World of Warcraft for about 2 years, right after it came out, and then for another year sometime after I stopped the first time. I kept stopping because I couldn't commit the time to it I should have, the players were being twats, and it just got kind of boring.

Now I just lost my job last Wednesday. I find myself being bored and unproductive, and it occured to me that I should start playing WoW again. But while I can't think of a good reason not to play, I also can't think of a good reason to get involved again. Does anyone have a deal maker in either direction, or an alternative suggestion?

Good reason not to play: You just lost your job, you can't afford to waste $15/month on it. Do a free to play MMORPG instead. Get into Guild Wars or something and get hyped up for Guild Wars 2.

As the first post said.

But for, it can help you relieve stress?
Cataclysm will be out at some point.
Lots of new areas, (I believe Gnomergan is now open as a city) and quests/monsters.

But I'd still say get a job first.

Well...
If you start again it will be hard to stop, because MMOs are like that.

The game got streamlined and simplified to the point where all you do is stand in the city and queue for instances/battlegrounds/arena or grind daily quests.

Depending on when you last played, your gear may be so outdated that it will be useless, so it's probably better to wait for Cataclysm release if you really wan to play it again.

And most important - better focus on looking for a new job, once you got it you can see whenever you have time for WoW or not.

how about you spend your time on somthing fun! the only reason to play a mmo is because of the friends you have made, and it sounds like you dont have any.

so my advice? get a nice console style game and have fun... or work your ass off to find a job.

*edit
i'm not saying you dont have friends, im saying none who play WOW lol

Why you should start: because it's fun.

No other reason to play a game.

i cannot decide if i want to re-subscribe when cataclysm hits just to see the changes. seems kind of a waste to purchase the expansion for $40 - $50 (i'm guessing) just to see how the world changed though. which means i would probably stick around to hit level 90 - which i could drag out for quite some time.

meh, i dunno. i will probably wait till i hear and read a few reviews before deciding.

Find a guild that isn't full of douchebags, and you're set for the rest of the game. My DDO guild boots douchebags, so we get to enjoy the game without complete assholes deciding it's THEIR guild so they can fuck it up if they want. Pretty chill guild, and very friendly to new members. Surely you can find this in WOW.

All very true, but since you've already played WoW OP, you know what things happen once you start playing it.

I'd like to clarify on the Job issue, I am of course actively searching, but these things take time to get results. I also have a fairly decent financial cushion for this type of situation, so a monthly fee will be cheaper than the money I tend to spend when I'm bored and idle.

It's the new cap.

Sorry, just wanted to correct it.

still WOW is not the right game, do a bit of research and find which one all your friends play rather than jump into one first. if they all play WOW then goodie gum drops, but if not then get that one. the only appeal of WOW is to gather up your mates and go running around, stomping on gnomes or goblins. unless you have a friends list of about 50 most people wont be on at the same time as you.

Because the two girls in my computing class play it...
No, I don't have a reason for you.

For folks who are dying to gain ~15 pounds, world of warcraft is a FANTASTIC option!

Nothing will help those unemployment blues and job search drawls like a good dose of extra bodyfat.

Nothing has changed hahaha.
If anything its gotten worse for those 2 facets.

I recently quit in january after 5yrs went back last month and was so bored of it that I didnt play it for more than a week total over the month.

Now it falls into this format:

Roll character
Rush to lvl80
Farm emblems / Run the ICC5 mans to get a Gear Score of 5200 or so, Farm Toc and ICC10man to get a GS of 6000+ Farm ICC25 man 'til you go to bed.

Everyone is a jerk, everyone has an attitude and EVERYONE humps that gear score mod like Jennifer Anistons leg.

Its all about farming ICC over and over now and all the other content gets passed over because farming Triumph Emblems allows you to bypass the 1st 2-3 emblem merchant grades and ignore the 1st 3 tiers of raids.

TBC made the old T1-3 raids obsolete with its release, WOLTK made the T4-6 raids obsolete with its release. WOTLK then made its OWN raid content obsolete with the release of ICC.

Blizzard really have screwed the pooch on this one making their own game obsolete in a single patch. Stupid move in my view.

wow .. i really am out of the loop. although that makes it less likely that i will return. a full expansion for 5 levels seems like a bit of a let down after the previous two.

i guess for me one of my biggest obstacles to returning is i only ever had 1 character -- a level 80 warlock. i was pretty done with that class when i quit and i will find it hard to go back to playing him again. and i absolutely will not start over from scratch. that would be brutal.

anyway, now that i've aired my WoW dirty laundry (so to speak), i shall move along.

Meh WoW was alright but if you get into it, and then get a new job, chances are you'll be spending too much time on WoW. IMO play some different games... get some game you've heard great things about but never had a chance to play. Rent games?

On the other hand, you could probably get some WoW girl to sell her sex to you for gold so that might be fun? (I hear the going rate is an "epic mount")
