I dont know about the rest of you, but I am really sick of playing the same games over and over again. It seems like ever single game thats made has at least one sequel and its really just the same game with new graphics and a slightly different story line and maybe some update weapons or puzzles. Take Ratchet & Clank for example, they already have made 9 games and the 10th one is coming out next fall. Ive played every one of those and i have been disappointed in too many of them now. Its the same story for Call of Duty, Prince of Persia, Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and the list goes on.

Does anyone else feel like they are being ripped off???

Becuase its easier to make mad cash on a game that did welll the first time, then to make something orginal. I think that new video segment thing said something about it.

Sequels*
OT: I never felt that way since I don't play any of the games you've mentioned, except Prince Of Persia and that was when the series was still good...

Dude, please use the spell checker. As for your question, I don't feel like I'm being ripped off so long as the sequel adds something. I don't think you're looking at the situation properly.

Stop buying them, then?

I don't mind sequels, they often prove to be worthwhile, and you have to get some bad ones in the mix for the good ones to come about. For example, I've heard Mass Effect 2 was extrememly good, although I've heard from a few that it was terrible but that's just haters. The three PS2 Prince of Persia titles were all either sequels or reboots, and the worst of all of them was still far better than a large chunk of gaming. And the Zelda games I can tolerate because sometimes they give us a real gem like Ocarina (or the much-less-loved-but-IMO-equally-deserving Majora's Mask).

In short, I actually like sequels because even when no good ones are coming out (like how Soul Calibur 4 was awful compared to 3 and 2 or even the original), eventually there will come a game that recaptures the magic that made it worthy of a sequel in the first place.

Also, judging by your post-count you're relatively new here, so welcome to the Escapist!

How did you spell sequel wrong in the title but right in the body?

Then play more new IPs. First games are usually self-contained, like Metro 2033, Minecraft, Crysis, Minecraft, Flotilla, Sins of a SOlar Empire, Company of Heroes, Cryostasis, World in Conflict, a STALKER game, anything by Popcap. You don't need to play later games in the series to appreciate the first. You could also play games that are completely user created stories, like Civ V, Minecraft, kind of Flotilla, and some other things I can't think of. In those games, there is no real story, so you have to add it in yourself. EXAMPLE: In my MineCraft game, my guy was transported into this mystical world with no memory of who he was and why he is here, my save is the endless search for a way back home (the addition of biomes will only make my story better). A lot of people have made sites where they tell a story based on a game like those I listed, and they can be very engaging.

Of course if you don't like buying sequels, then don't. I don't buy every game in every series, if I skip a few games in something like CoD where story really doesn't matter that much, when I return the game is much fresher and I enjoy it more than if I played every game.

Eh.

Problem with sequels and me, is that, in a lot of cases, unless it's a complete overhaul (IE Fallout 2 to Fallout 3.) I feel the sequel to be "Less of a game" than the thing it is a sequel, thus I often enjoy them less.

I tend not to buy overly sequelized games.

Call of Duty and what not.
