Ok, first of all, let me start by saying I have never torrented/stolen a videogame in my life.

So today as a easter gift from my mom I got a $200 gamestop giftcard. So naturaly,I want a game...now. So I go to gamestop, get Just Cause 2,New and factory sealed, and rush home to start to play my new game!

Put in cd code... and BAM! "HEY DUMB**** THATS A CODE THATS ALREADY BEEN USED!!!" So I thought oh ok. lets try again,... "are you *******?? same code"... so now I'm scared, like damn do I have to go back to Gamestop... so I did, and they told me I was a Thief who obviously already got the code and was trying to rip them off... so I go back home get on steam submit my little "cd key reset" Oh, and it gets better. I'm out of town. All next week. So chances of them resetting CD-Key? None... I'm just SOL....

This is the reason so many people torrent games. It's a pain in the ass to obtain a game you LEGALLY Purchased!

Ok, time for the Discussion... What can I do that can speed Up the process? I leave tomorrow at 4:45 am

Isn't that the problem with the game's DRM rather than Steam?

I mean CD keys are far older than Steam.

How is this Steamworks fault?

Looks to me like the manufacturer made a mistake here.

The game requires an online registration with Steam in order to work, right? Truth to be told, it's actually kind of a neat system... but I was thinking about what would happen if a legal key had already been generated by a keygen, or something like that.

I'd recommend doing what my brother did when his Steam Account got hijacked:
He had to take the paper with the key written on it (the Orange Box key in this case), write his account name on it with a pencil, photograph it and send it to Steam support. He got his account back within two days.

So if that works to prove ownership of a Steam account, it should work to prove ownership of a game.

Only one thing you can do when that happens...
Quote Pirates of the Caribbean.
"Bloody Pirates!"

Or you could try to contact support or something...
Or sue someone.

That's what I figured happened. I just updated the Support Ticket with my PoP so I hope that helps...

What part of this is Steamworks fault? Either the shop let the keycode get out or it was taken by a keygen.

This problem could have happened with or without Steam.

But surely it's only a pain in the arse to obtain a game you've legally purchased because someone has already torrented it and has used your code, obtained from a key generator.

If nobody torrented games and used key generators, then nobody would ever have the problem of their legally bought codes being invalid.

You should not have been so weak.

You should have stood your ground as they don't have a leg to stand on accusing you of being a thief. THEY are in the wrong and they know it, they sold you a product that does not work as advertised, that is known in the business as FRAUD if they refuse to refund for THEIR mistake.

Well then why the hell after doing that did you walk out of the store without a refund or new copy?

Why did you just give in to the BLATANTLY wrong authorities.

They bluffed and you fell for it.

The only lawyer I know by name (and otherwise) is Jack Thompson...
Would you call him "good"?

Disclaimer: I don't have any personal experience with Jack Thompson's work nor with his field so I can't really judge him on that matter.
