Why the hate for young people?

I was at a party at a farm a few days ago, with my dad at his uncle's farm along with other people of all ages.  Anyway, at the end when we're going, my dad talks to his uncle through the window of the car, ranting about how young people don't want to grow anything or work for anything (they were both drunk).  This made me think: Why are teenagers judged like this?

Because we're hormone exploding, impulsive, selfish, demanding and unreasonable pricks. Just like all people, frankly, some are worse and some are better, but in the end we're all just human.

Maybe that's a too negative view for you, but frankly, I'd rather face the truth and punch it in the face than stay in denial for the fact that no one is perfect and when you're not fully grown and stuffed with hormones, then you're going to be more or less a douche in someone's eyes. Although, you don't even need to be a youth. Everything's offensive to someone, somewhere, somehow, remember? Doesn't matter who you are, in someone's eyes you're a douche.

In general, this is just stereotyping, and the youth that makes the biggest mess gets the most attention, some people just don't have another view to go by. -Shrug-

Ha, earlier I wouldn't have agreed with that but I think it's just a matter of what's going through their heads.

13-17: Trying to figure themselves out; trying to adjust to high-school, making friends; benign (for the most part) selfishness.

18-21/22: Still trying to figure themselves out; adjusting to college (if they go) or life on their own; trying to form the right connections and make themselves known outside of their immediate community--thus, still somewhat selfish.

Full-blown AIDS adults usually have shit figured out in their lives but they don't realize that youth is actually something that it takes time to grow out of. My guess is that adults just get impatient and bitter that young people are still so... young.

Because, as a young adult, I can already see how easy it is to "so-call" forget what it was like as a teenager. This is because you become preoccupied with real life and realize that there are more important things than getting plastered etc.

You realize that you need a job to provide your family with food and a roof, and when you see teenagers who are almost entering that phase of their life too, it's frustrating.
They might have been both drunk, but they (possibly) have jobs that provide.

Of course, there are also people who never grow up and decide to exploit the system and live on the dole/welfare. But I don't see those people 'judging' teenagers anyway, because they never moved on and grew up either.

Yeah, there are always scapegoats for people's hatred and blame and this is just one of those demographics. Generalizations are an easy way to cast blame on something for people to feel better about themselves but a quote I say is Generalization is the brother of misinformation. Sweeping generalizations are never entirely accurate.

Cause every group is badmouthed by members of other groups over something or other?

Because we aren't exactly like they were when they were young. People always think that their generation is/was the best, and they see the next generation changing as messing with perfection.

My father had a talk like this with his friend. (Except Sober)

He said children these day arn't as tough as children 40-50 years ago. He's right. But there is plenty of new things BESIDES farming for people to do.

Because everyone is human. People like to stereotype, blame things on others and would rather think badly of other people than sort out their own problems. Thos who do sort out their problems look down on those who haven't...

I've just thought of a better answer, define humanity to yourself and there you will have your answer to why people are hated. Since everyone have their own ideas and opinions I won't try to say what I think. Unfortunately I end up being pretty pessimistic when I look at human kind.

Because it is an easy position to have. If you start with the premise that "kids are lazy and don't know how to work, all you have to do after that is wait until the kid does not go out looking for a job and you are proven right.

If you can show the adult a kid that works harder than him at that age, then that becomes an exception that proves the rule. If you find a hundred examples of this, then there is a ton of exceptions that prove the rule. Eventually, all it takes is one kid that chooses to play the 360 and the adult's original point is reaffirmed, that kids today are lazy, even the ones that work at least 40 hour a week at multiple jobs.

Because little kids are generally stupid, and teenagers below the age of sixteen are filled with hormones they've never experienced before, making them stupid with a superiority complex.

Well I certainly hate young people, but that has nothing to do with age as opposed to my hatred for nearly every other human being that I come across. In regard to this specifically, certain adults like to regurgitate that tired old platitude of 'kids these days...' followed by some completely ungrounded insinuation of apathetic/dissolute/quixotic/irresponsible/tasteless attitudes among today's youth. Give it 20 years and many of the teenagers of today will be spouting the exact same bullshit about their kids.

Because generally teenagers are the type of people who will pile up in the booth next to you at a restaurant, giggle loudly while they prance about as if they're in some fictionalized 1950's malt shop from Disney XD, then have the nerve to look down their noses when a couple walks in with a rowdy looking 5 year old.
