Why the hate on deviantart?

Now I have being to deviantart(I don't have a profile) and I don't really see why there is a lot of hate with it. There is not much on this site but it does come up sometimes. I know that there are a few crazys..and I know that it sums up rule 34. But they do have lots of great art and not everyone is crazy.

So tell me what you think.

I don't hate it. But then, I've never really been there for a long period of time, and the more shocking rule 34 images have probably overshadowed what is probably a majority of fairly decent art by people who do it for fun or just want to let people see what they can do and invite people to give them advice.

But the vast amount of self-indulgent insert, poorly made, fan characters, etc...

Far outweigh the legitimately talented people on the site. Shame too, 'cause those people are actually pretty good.

I put my sketches on deviantart, along with whatever vaguely interesting or "pretty" photos that I can pass off as artistic. I'm not going to lie, I enjoy it when someone favourites any piece of work that I've done. It's nice, and yes somewhat affirming, I accept that I am not the most talented person in the world and I am very aware of my limitations, but dammit, my stuff has been favourited so for a few minutes I feel like I totally rock.

First of all, it's "crazies" and not "crazys", but it's an easy mistake to make. Secondly, I don't mind the rule 34. I don't frequent Deviantart myself, but it's kind of sweet that people with weird fetishes can finally find some porn for their tastes.

I don't think i've ever been to deviantart, now that I think about it. Just does not seem like a kind of place i'd want to check out. Oh, and I have a natural aversion to sites where fanart is featured. It makes me sad I can't draw good anymore.

That's true of nearly every site based around user-generated content, though. Everything from Youtube to The Escapist itself. Garbage videos far outweigh the genuinely amusing or informative. Retarded posts far outweigh the intelligent and insightful. Doesn't stop me from getting plenty of mileage out of all the sites, though.

I think deviantart is awesome. I go there for wallpapers, I look through the top-rated stuff every so often and most of it is really good. I also go there for PC customization stuff like skins and themes. I also got my icon set from there. It's a great site with just so much stuff how can you not like it? Just look through the top-rated stuff and do searches for what you want and you won't get anything that you don't wanna see.

It's the internet, as with any site there will be creepy shit. But for the most part deviant art is actually an enjoyable place to visit as I often look up character drawings, wallpapers, comics and even cosplay photos. There is some true artistic genius on that site.

Shame it's reputation gets tarnished by furries, fan erotica and the frequent poor drawings.

Now, I think it's a rather nice place for people to show their talent for whatever reason. Sure, amateurs are everywhere but they also have the right to show their skills. However, it's not that hard to find a diamond on all that coal.
