I can understand that some people just do not like the genre or have personal issues with Activision or Kotick but personally I do not understand why many people especially people here dislike MW2 so much. Sure it has its flaws but what game doesnt there all made by people who definitely arent perfect. This isnt me saying that MW2 is the best game around. I own it and have some grievances with it (quick scoping in particular) but at the end of the day I can still enjoy it. So if you hate MW2 why and if you like it then same thing why?

EDIT: I do understand that both the topic of MW2 and this being a "why hate thread" is old and overworked like a NYC hooker. but since CoD:BO is officially being released in a few hours, I wanted to get everyone's opinion about MW2 now before they hate on Black ops

I don't hate it, as it is rather enjoyable.

It is the persons who cling to it like leeches and call it the peak of realism. Their ignorance is offensive.

Even worse community.
One man army.
Dangerclose.
Commando.
PAINKILLER.
Chopper gunner.
Nukes.

Shall I go on?

Seems like IF was seeing how much they could get away with....which was a lot apparently.
Also MW2 and WAW seemed to try too hard at copying Cod4's success and ultimately failed. Horribly. IMO.

Well, i think its repetitive and dull.
Having said that, I don't 'hate' it, i just don't like it. The main reason i can find for this is that a games Multiplayer has never really drawn me into keeping it any longer than i would if said Multiplayer did not exist.

I have nothing against its fans, unless they're among the many ignorant types who idolize the games as figureheads of realism and awesome.

Lets try and be civil about this people. Even though none of you will be :p

EDIT: Also, the weapons are underpowered. Think ballistics and anatomy.

Campaign is crap. Multiplayer has balance issues.

What more an I say?

Also, use the search bar. This exact thread has been done dozens of times.

....huh? I think you're about a year late to the party, sport. We're all busy trashing Black Ops now.

That being said, I personally liked it, but I fully acknowledge it is one of the most poorly balanced modern FPS to date. That, and it was a giant middle finger to the PC gaming crowd. Oh, and the crazy over-priced map-packs, Bobby Kotick being an arrogant ass, it getting some pretty crappy patch support, a 5-hour campaign, no co-op campaign, bad story...really there are numerous reasons why people can hate this game.

I personally still enjoyed it, in fact I have it both on 360 and PC (I bought one and got the other copy as an x-mas gift...) and I played it a decent amount on both. My biggest grievance was the shitty balancing, if I had to choose one. Again, still liked it and plan to eventually get Black Ops (probably for x-mas...though getting called a "christmas noob" got really old after a while in MW2.)

No game's perfect, it's bashed because it's very popular regardless of these issues - You don't see people bashing the craptacular garbage that was FEAR2's mutliplayer, do you?

As bad as/Worse community than the infamous Halo/Xbox Live one
Extremely popular (to the point that it started to become a sort of face for gaming to those who don't game)
It's an FPS (shooters in general aren't very well respected due to their more obvious "sameyness", Valve games excluded of course given that this is the Escapist)
While the single player isn't horrible, the plot is utterly disgraceful in some areas, which isn't a good thing when it acts as a representative for gaming due to it's popularity (shows off a sort of "only here to shoot things" stereotype)
Lack of fun being had at points
Owned by Activision
Host of online gameplay issues
No Russian was a horribly overexaggerated controversy (hey, we're able to do what GTA has let us do for years: Shoot civilians! Only it's in an airport so it's edgy)
Captain Price didn't share his moustache tips with players

Everyone and their mother plays it?
Guys are doing it with girls, girls are doing it with other girls. And now apparently kids are doing it with their moms.
But anyway, nothing will ever be created that will please the entire human race, it's impossible. But I liked it, and I guess the obscene amount of money means that most people are stupid. If that's true then hey, screw you smart people!

Personally I haven't got any major problems with the game itself, I didn't really enjoy it much but that's beside the point. My personal pet hate is a portion of the audience that plays it.

I work in the quartermaster store near the Gallipoli barracks (name, not location) in Australia and since we sell third party gear to both the GI's and civilians we get a depressingly large cross section of early-to-late teens who believe that MW2 (and I suppose FPS games in general to a degree) have made them super soldiers in real life.

After you've heard twelve year old kids tell you that they could decapitate a man with an .50BMG rifle with perfect accuracy at ranges longer than the highest recorded sniper kills in history you begin to harbor some resentment to the game they all claim taught them, atm that's MW2.

If it were encouraging people to actually sign up I'd be okay with it. However not one of the kids who comes in running their mouth off about how awesome they are has the guts to actually sign up and go through Kapooka.

CoD's fine in itself. I found the single player campaigns actually pretty great, and the multiplayer's alright.

But I dislike it for two reasons:
Firstly is how overhyped it is. While CoD's a perfectly competent game, people are treating it like it's the holy grail or something. And people get totally addicted over the multiplayer that's really by far the worse half of the game. I know a bunch of people that own it and haven't even completed the single player campaign.

Secondly is how it's kind of become Activision's top product, being an inevitable brick that needs to fall for that terrible, terrible company to finally come down.
