if you go to school then youve probably heard a teacher moan about having to mark homework or take ages marking it or just not even mark it.... there the ones who set it so dont moan about marking it if they dont want to mark it dont set it. what i ecspecially hate is when you give a essay in that took you ages to do and they dont mark it for ages sometimes its like two minths its like if you set the home work you could atleast mark it ecspesially when ive put that much effort into it.....

edit: yes i know my writing skills are awful

Because your teachers don't want to grade your paper if they have to slog through that wonderful example of your writing skills.

Ok. Now you become a teacher. See how long you can go with pushing aside everything you love to do so you can grade papers all day instead.

Think of it from their angle.

This is more of a rant than a discussion.

It also demonstrates a poor understanding of how any half-decent academic structure works, as well. Teachers set homework, but they are required to do so as part of their jobs to monitor trends in student performance, and (hopefully) catch anyone having trouble and help them. It is also a tool to make sure that things a student is taught is actually learned.

It's not really their choice.

I find that frustatrating at times, other times if I've forgotten an essay that excuse is a convienient way of avoiding trouble.

Yes! I never tended to spend ages and put a lot of effort in admittedly, but the reason that fucked me off is because they'd stress how much they need it in that day, so I'd end up staying up all night doing it, then they wouldn't mark it for months, meaning I could of handed it in way later. That robbed me of sleep. To be fair though, even if they had ask for it in in 3 months time, I still would of waited to 1AM the the night before.

they don't set homework because they want to, they HAVE to. National Curriculum, government guidelines, OFSTED etc. teachers would probably do away with it, too, if they could.

So you be happier if you spent hours working on a multi-page paper with several sources and they just wrote a letter on it five seconds later and handed it back to you? You don't want to know how well you did your work, you just want some recognition of having done it?

Generally it's not the teacher's option to set the homework. For a lot of teachers they have been told to set it by the subject head of their school or even by the Education board, in the case of coursework. A lot of teachers have little choice in the matter, as their jobs are on the line if they don't choose to set homework. This is coming from someone whose mother is a Secondary School English teacher.

Besides, MGIBlaze gives a pretty good reason why in his post:

Because if people don't receive help from teachers because the teachers merely assume they're doing fine, the teachers face the risk of their class getting grades below the standard and losing their jobs as a result.

Obviously you don't attend english class.
I noticed that as well, yet decided to try and avoid saying it. Ironic, seeing as I'm the son of an English teacher.
