I came across this project from GPG, https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gaspoweredgames/wildman-an-evolutionary-action-rpg/ and decided to research it a bit more, below are the findings!

Official site: http://wildman.gaspowered.com

The Plot:

You start out in the Stone age (from 200,000 years back - Dinosaurs, and other creatures live and battle alongside Man in the Wildman universe) and progress through the eras, looting Technology, Items & Weapons from defeated tribes/camps, kingdoms, etc and shape your own path (and your character) throughout history.

Merits & why its Innovative:

I'm yet to see such deep character progression that has been this open-ended, since character progression in most games controlled by a limited tech tree. Wildman on the other hand isn't constrained by a tech tree. Each persons' build - Tech, Weapons and Items are unique and no two players might have the same stats.

Concept-Art:

^ This concept-art has gameplay scenarios and attacks near the bottom (check the hi-res version) - The Bear Slam & T-Rex Tail smash!

^ Shows Polymorphs & Items.

The RTS part of it, "Warzones" is supposed to seamlessly integrate into the game play (Exploration, Dungeon crawling, etc) (below)

Nevertheless, It's got Dinosaurs, Sabretooths, Polymorphs, Mounts & Wildwomen!

Project Mercury & Mod-Tools:

They also demoed their Cloud-based Modding Tool & Web platform, "Project Mercury" which can manipulate 3D in-game objects, contribute to level design, custom maps, etc. (see below) which seems really interesting, cause we don't need to download the tools and get frustrated while setting them up before you even start to work with the tools. This IMO could democratize Modding a fair bit!

Talent behind the game:

Chris Taylor, Game designer responsible for Total Annihilation, Dungeon Siege, Supreme Commander, etc.
Jeremy Soule, composer for Total Annihilation, Dungeon Siege, Supreme Commander, Skyrim, Morrowind, Oblivion, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, Dawn of War.
Stu Rose, Artist from Blizzard who worked on WarCraft, Diablo, StarCraft, and World of WarCraft. He also designed the Blizzard logo!

If still interested - Pledge, Share the word and Help them in shipping this game! :D Gas Powered Games' Wildman Kickstarter [http://kck.st/11uXy71]

Hmmm, 9 days left and still $100k from the halfway mark. While the concept is cool, I think it's safe to say this is dead in the water.
