Will 2011 be the greatest year in gaming

With game like Mass Effect 3, Uncharted 3, Dead Space 2, Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat, Duke Nukem Forever, Twisted Metal, Fight Night Champion, Killzone 3, Dragon Age 2, Gears of War 3, Homefront, Shogun 2, Crysis 2, Portal 2, L.A. Noir, F.E.A.R. 3, Resistance 3, Rage, Elder Scrolls V, Arkham City, Diablo 3 and so on I personaly believe that this will be the definate best year in gaming ever.

KotOR 1 isn't being released in 2011 so it is automatically not the best gaming year ever.
And there are only 3-4 titles that look remotely good coming out this year, so if anything, it won't be that good to me.

You hype these games and they disappoint you.

No, what makes a year great is that game you've never heard of, that comes out and blows you away. I wasn't anticipating KoTOR, I wasn't anticipating S.T.A.L.K.E.R., I wasn't anticipating Mount and Blade. You weren't anticipating Minecraft.

To be fair, yes sequels can be awesome. Still, just because this year has more popular sequels than many have had, it doesn't matter. Don't count your chickens before they've hatched and all that.

Be honest now, do you really think Duke Nukem Forever will be released this year?

Elder Scrolls V, Diablo 3, Forza Motorsport 4 and Test Drive Unlimited 2 are must haves for me, but the rest of the lineup for me is kinda "meh".

No gaming year will ever be as AAA packed as 1994. Well for me anyway.

I'm gunna say 2011 won't be the greatest year of gaming, because Half-Life 2: Episode 3 ain't coming out, but based on what is coming out, I'd say gamers are in for a real treat this year

As I've just finished discussing on IRC, this year seems shaping up to be the year of the RPGs. Sure, there might be more shooters, but everyone remembers the RPGs more - and quite a few are on their way. Off the top of my head, Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Witcher 2. I'm definitely going to get 2 of those (ME3, DE:HR) and TESV and DA2 also look promising.

As I have little experience in RPGs, this may be an important year for me when it comes to broadening my horizons.

Edit: Nevermind, I'm also waiting for Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Dragon Age 2. I didn't know that Diablo 3 was being released this year.

The only problem is so many numbers, so many sequels. How can it be the best year in gaming with such little genuinely new stuff? Refining is great, but pivotal?

See 2007 had so many great AND original games, games that people are still debating to be superior to their successors today, games that many say have yet to be surpassed. I'd say 2011 is looking to be the best year SINCE 2007, but definitely not the best of the past 10 years, not by far.

Great looking original games for 2011:
-RAGE
-Dota 2 (like TF2, sequel, 1st was just a mod)
-Star Wars: The Old Republic
-Bulletstorm
-Hunted: The Demon's Forge
-Dungeons
-Brink
-XCOM
-Minecraft (Final release expected 2011)
+Twisted metal (I deem it a significant reboot rather than sequel)
+Zelda Skyward Sword (5 years since the last Zelda game, and this one looks unique enough)


Is that much of an improvement over, say, 2010 when you had:
-Alan Wake
-Bayonetta
-Enslaved
-Red Dead Redemption
-Vanquish
-Demon's Souls
-ModNation Racers
-3D Dot Game Heroes
-Darksiders
-Metro 2033

So yeah, 2011 is a GREAT year for gamers, but not the greatest year in gaming history.
