Will the Steam box ever actually happen?

The Steam box was announced late march (Almost 3 months ago) and was effectively a compact, gaming dedicated PC that could run all steam games on a tv, while being very compact.
It sounded great! And could compete with some of the next gen consoles... If it ever materializes.
I was hoping it would be unveiled at E3 along with all the other new consoles but i can't seem to find anything about it except from the initial release.
I didn't actually go to E3 due to the fact i live in the UK, and i am broke... So does anybody have any extra information on it?
Could it also be the "Console killer" Valve is hoping for?

Are you talking about that stupid "Piston"? That was never a "Steam Box", just an underpowered, overpriced PC.

Any PC can be a "Steam Box". And Steam already has a Big Picture mode as a TV interface. The Steam Box is already here! It's just mildly DIY.

Honestly, I'm not really up on what a Steam Box is. I've gathered it's suppose to be Valve's console, but I don't know anything about what it's suppose to be. More to the point, why would Valve want it's own console? Console's are pricey to make, and while I'm sure Valve could sell some of them, it's strong suit has always been PC gaming. I kinda doubt too many console gamers are going to switch from PS4 or even nuXBox1 to this Steam Box, and PC gamers really wouldn't have a single reason to do so, since they already have a PC with Steam on it.

It's coming with its launch line-up of Half life 3 and Team Fortress 3.
They just need to start working on it.

Valve will wait until the next-gen console rush settles down (next year, perhaps?) and then strike with full force - by announcing the mind-blowing Steambox.

Lots of sequels to Valve's famous franchises will be the launch titles of Steambox - expect many 3s!

In order for a Steam Box to work, it needs to be a small, affordable gaming PC that runs on a Steam OS and is still able to play Windows version games.

The complications of making that work is the reason why we don't have a Steam Box yet, if ever.
