So, I've put this in gaming discussion, because it's talking about whether this would work for using my PS3 with my non-HDCP compliant monitor.

I can't use a HDMI->DVI cable, because it just gives me a black screen.

So. Will this work for me? http://www.ebay.ie/itm/2M-S-VGA-HD-15-Pin-3-RCA-Component-Video-Card-YPbPr-TV-Cable-Female-Adapter-/250920115008?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3a6c011b40#ht_2108wt_1336

I could use the PS3's YPbPr cable and attach that to the female YPbPr adapter that comes with it, then use the VGA in on my monitor.

Would it work?

Theoretically, yeah. I don't see why not.

It would be kind of difficult to actually say, because I have never done it myself, but...you know. It seems there was a market for it...?

sucks your monitor doesn't support HDCP, otherwise you'd be set...

Make sure your monitor supports the YPbPr color format. Otherwise the colors on your screen will be messed up. But yes, that will work. That's the set up I have for my Xbox.

Thanks very much. Can't find if it supports it or not. I have an acer AL-2051W

Any chance you'd be able to find out? Not really sure where to look.

I highly doubt you have a monitor that doesn't support YPbPr. It's a color space, not a format. So if the colors get combined properly, the picture will be fine, as long as the monitor receives it in a way it understands.

After a Google search I don't think it does, but try and go to the monitors display menu, and see if you can find option for color format. It should say RGB but see if you can change it to YPbPr.
