I remember having awesome times with Takedown and Paradise. Idk why they stopped making them, but I think I remember reading it had something to do with NFS.

Maybe they should just combine NFS and Burnout to make the ultimate arcade car game. Go right down the list:

  • Great racing
    Great customization
    Free Roam
    Huge, diverse and interesting maps
And of course, the intense, highly detailed action

Yes, yes, and so much YES!! Burnout Revenge was my instruction to the series when I first got my Xbox 360. I was never into racers (Arcade, Sim or otherwise,) but I picked it up because it was one of the scant few launch games that looked moderately interesting and I wanted something other than Oblivion to play on my new console, and it ended up being a HUGE time sync; it was so much visceral fun! I even went back and got Burnout Takedown for my Original Xbox (which I?d since given to my dad for grins,) and he and my mom (neither of which were ever gamers) even fell in love with it! We?d put on a pot of coffee and ?crash? (as my mom would call it) for hours. Then Burnout Paradise came out. As excited as I was for the ?open world? take on the franchise, I never liked it near as much as the previous titles, first and foremost because they took out the explosions; that was an unforgiveable sin. Also I didn?t think the open world was really conducive to the racing element; it was too confusing trying to watch a minimap AND the road at 120 mph. Yahtzee says it all best in his Zero Punctuation; it was the first I ever saw and made me a HUGE fan of his series ever since.

But, OT, I would KILL for a return-to-form Burnout on the current gen, one that at least brings back the Revenge elements they took out for Paradise; they could have closed-course racing and open-world gameplay. Hell, I?d even settle for a Burnout Revenge remaster at this point.

EDIT: had to watch again and share; this ZP nails it! ?Burnout Paradise is a game that hates players with a passion?? XD

o_O... Ugh... that's unfortunate. Still, I'm a fan of (some) golf games; that one, though little more than a tech demo, looks like it'd be nice for an occasional 15-20 minute distraction. I'd pay $10 for it. I mean I WON'T, but I would.

I'm with you dude, those burnout games were the best. Some hybrid of Paradise and Revenge would absolutely fucking perfect, maybe with an option to change to Takedown's difficulty also. I think need for speed did a really shit attempt at adding takedowns and car damge to its games. Come on....Crushed metal is what we want...In glorious next gen!

Yeah, we need a good new arcade racer to step up.

NOPE. I'm not here to "Pimp My Ride"(more like "PUNK" My Ride if you ask me), I just want to get out there and race.

Either or on this, but I'd rather they focus on making the racing good first. Lots of dangerous shortcuts, though? Yeah, I could go for that.

YES. Larger maps with more varied terrain types.

Definitely.[hr]

Yeah, Revenge is my favorite too. Takedown is better than Paradise, though.

Exactly. The whole concept of Burnout really requires that the game do away with licensed cars. Just use a bunch of fictionalized rides and have them crumple and come apart in various ways.

Loved Burnout as a kid. I found it hilarious.

If they do make another one, please, for the love of God, don't try to shove a story in there.

Burnout Paradise is my 2nd favourite racing game of all time, so I would be absolutely down for more from Critereon in the series. Though, I am rather confused as to why they suddenly are involved in NFS.

Funny enough, you mentioned a combination of Burnout and NFS, and I thought the 2012 version of Most Wanted was kinda like that. The problem I feel with that game is that it combined both Burnout and NFS in a rather crap way. It was too easy to get the best cars if you knew where to find them (A lambo was just sitting on the side of the street, for example), the blacklist was boring and absolutely worthless in this game, the pursuits were a total waste of time and barely meant anything while being way too easy to deal with, and I didn't enjoy the progression much. The RACING itself was fine, and the map had a lot of fun areas and landmarks that I expect from Critereon. The rest... Eh.

So yes, I'd like to see them try again

IMO, the 2010 NFS Hot Pursuit was a far more successful combination of Burnout and NFS.

I've only played Burnout Paradise out of the series, but I didn't really care for it. Seemed a little bit too over the top with the wrecking events (and it didn't help that my Steam copy was very glitchy, including the fab soundtrack staying damage-muffled even after fixing your car to a pristine condition). Hot Pursuit still had plenty of wrecking action, but it felt like it was about arcade racing through pretty scenery with flashy toys first (along with cop chases of course). And I'm into that kind of stuff, reminds me of playing the arcade Outrun as a kid.

Oh man Burnout 3 Takedown and Revenge were so damn good! I've never really been much of a fan of racing games but the Burnout games were absolutely my jam. Never was any good at the Crash events though but I could happily spend hours getting the Signature Takedowns and doing Road Rage events. Every now and again I fire up Paradise but it's not quite the same - the open world approach was an interesting idea but I think that having a proper event-by-event format like in the previous games is better. I'd definitely love to see another Burnout though and frankly it's been long enough that I'd even take another open world one.
