I don't know if this is happening elsewhere but here in the UK, Seth MacFarlane is releasing Family Guy Bird is the Word (AKA Surfing Bird) and there's a big thing about it becoming the Christmas #1. As from tomorrow (12th December) the sales will go towards the chart next week and if it is number 1 then, it will be the Christmas number 1 instead of the X Factor winner (X Factor is what Pop Idle became).

will you be supporting it or will you be backing the X-Factor winner? I know I'll be getting Bird is the Word, but what about you?

Oh god. I knew this would start up after last year. The thing is, last year it was a pretty original idea. This year, loads of people are gonna come up with "let's make ______ christmas number 1!!!" campaigns and as a result there won't be enough support for one song to beat whatever the X-factor puts out. It'll end up with a lot of stuff at lie a mid-point in the charts, and the X-factor on top.

Also, that song annoys me to no end.

Pretty much this. The second RATM got to number one. I knew it'd happen, and with a silly song like Surfin' Bird.

However, I'm going with what the bookies are offering 4/1 on.

John Cage's 4'33" - 4 minutes and 33 seconds of total silence.

As XJ-0461 said, this was inevitable after the rage against the machine campaign last year. The fact is, last year we made a point about how fickle the pop charts can be, especially at christmas. Any further attempts in the same manner don't help at all, they simply make the chart mean even less. No, I will not be supporting surfin bird, nor do I watch x facter/buy the x factor christmas release.

God no, that song was funny in that episode of family guy but any time after that it's just annoying as hell.

Ugh, fuck no, I won't be supporting either of them, Surfin' Bird wasn't even funny in Family Guy and it's even less funny now it's been repeated ad fucking nauseam by everyone in the god damn world and his or her dog.

In short, screw the Christmas charts, who in their right mind honestly gives a shit?

I've heard of this campaign, I'd heard of the piece before the campaign started, but still, one thing confuses me. For it to become no. 1, people actually have to buy it, right? And in recorded form, that means they're paying for 4'33'' of silence as an actual audio file.
Even as a campaign, why would you exchange money for this?

No, its singularly one of the most irritating "songs", if it can be called such, Ive ever heard.

Radio is bad enough without that crap joining in.

This, the joke was a one-time thing, and attempting to impose it on the real world is just evil.

The same reason lots of people bought a song many already had for last years campaign, I guess?

I won't be supporting it, because I'm a tight student *awhhh*, however I do love that so many people want to ruin Simon Cowell's Christmas and I won't tire of hearing the Bird is the Word.

But at least then you got the whole nostalgia thing; even if you already had the song, you'd end up listening to a song you once enjoyed (in theory) and may not have heard for some time.
Here's it's just silence. Nothing.
