William Christopher was announced dead several hours ago. The actor, known best for his role as Father Mulcahy on M*A*S*H, seems to be the last victim of the celebrity curse of 2016. With only hours left before 2017 in North America at the time of this posting, we an only hope as much as yet another talented actor leaves us.

Curse or just the mere passing of an older generation?
Passing of an older generation. I'm expecting the Queen of England to die soon, not becuase of her age but she's also missed two services due to a "heavy cold". I'm suspecting pneumonia.

While born too late to see the show during its heyday, I watched plenty of M*A*S*H* reruns as a teenager. Fr. Mulcahey was one of my favorite characters.

Rest in peace, Mr. Christopher. Goodbye, farewell and amen.

Binged watch this this summer.

If more religious folk were like his character, i'd detest them a whole lot less.

That's one of the main reasons why I liked the character; he practiced what Jesus taught about treating others. He provided moral and spiritual support when needed, but he never abused his position as a means to judge or convert others. Indeed, he was very open-minded about other beliefs and practices. He was an admirable role model for Christians and non-Christians alike.

I grew up watching MASH. If there hasn't been so many iconic deaths in 2016, I wouldn't feel as strongly as I do now. I can't think of anything else he has done other than MASH and some commercials for Godfather's Pizza. I found this image that probably best describe his appeal to fans of the show.
