Little bit of backstory first. Back in 2008, family bought me a laptop with Vista on it which I have been using since. A few months ago I grew tired of Windows Vista and decided that it was time to upgrade my laptop to Windows 7. I went out and bought the Home Premium edition, installed it and everything was awesome........until my laptop started fucking up. The keyboard on it no longer works and it randomly shuts itself off, so I've decided to upgrade and get a whole new computer which I should be getting in about a week or so.

Is there anyway for me to use the same CD Key that I got with my copy of Windows 7 on the new computer? I was thinking that if I install an old copy of Windows XP onto the laptop, it would deactivate the Windows 7 on there so it would then work on the new computer.

What do you guys reckon?

Yes you can use that key on another computer. The way it works is each key has a limited amount of uses before it says "Nope, you've done this too many times". Windows or Microsoft rather check when a key is on the net to see if there's one of the same comflicting with it.

tl;dr - If your laptops fucked and your putting it on a new PC, yes it'll work.
