Okay, so I've been hearing wonderful things about the new Windows 7 beta, and I'm considering giving it a try. Right now I'm running Ubuntu Intrepid, and there are all kinds of problems (that may or may not be related to me running Intrepid). The most common is when I close Firefox, it will occasionally make me do a force quit and then will not start again unless I reboot. This usually happens after it won't play any sound from videos or radio sites.

Anyway, my question is this. Is Windows 7 all it's cracked up to be? Should I at least give it a try?

I'm experimenting with it on a VMserver at work.

It's basically the same setup as Windows Vista, except it manages your memory much more efficiently.

Ubuntu has a lot more promise if you really get into it. I had a dual boot with Ubuntu running the beyrl (sp?) app and LOVED it. I ended up losing my HDD though :(

I'd say give it a try in a virtual or dual boot environment if you can. That way you don't lose your primary OS.

It's said to be as fast(performence-wise) as XP. Thats the thing that counts for me.

I'm loving it at the moment. It's what Vista should've been, definately worth a try.

I use it every day on my main computer. It runs well on newer and older hardware. I love it.

I'm thinking of trying this, but how would I keep all my stuff that is on vista the same? Also, what happens when the beta ends? If I install this will I lose my vista OS?

I don't know if you can still get the beta, but I'm working under the assumption that, even if we can't get it, I'll buy it when it comes out.

The beta was closed. But, supposedly in May is when the RC is gunna drop. I suggest that if you are unsure about buying Windows 7 when it comes out, that you do NOT do an upgrade of your current Vista system. Instead you should create a separate partition and install the Windows 7 (beta or RC) on that. If possible, you ALWAYS want to do a clean install of an OS.
