I know this isn't really the place to ask and I hope it shows how far to the end of my rope I am. I have never not been able to google my problem but it's been a month and I need help.
I am using an Afterglow wireless headset after my Turtle Beach broke on me, sadly. Ever since day one this headset has had a 'feature' that I have never seen before. The best name I can give it is 'Auto Muffle'. When I am playing a game that has repeating noise (footsteps or just ambient music) after only a few seconds the sound begins to slowly muffle until it turns off. Turning the sound on my PC up (or down) a notch kicks the headphones back on, but the 'feature' starts up again and after a few seconds the sound is off again. All I can imagine is that it's a battery saver, but it is beyond frustrating.
Last night, for example, I was gaming and on vent with some friends and I would miss half the chat because of this 'feature' Usually a really loud noise, such as a gunshot, will cancel the effect as well, leaving me either Running around letting off a shot every few seconds, or not hearing the footsteps behind me. Either way it's defeating the purpose of using headphones at all.
To answer a few questions before they get asked:
No, the effect does not happen with speakers, or different headsets, just the afterglow.
No, there was no software installed with it, and no options I can adjust beyond the basics for any headphones
The manual looks as if it were written for a three year old and the only 'help' it contains is 'If you cant hear anything, make sure they are plugged in.
Sorry for the long post, as you can see it's been an issue since day one. I would have returned them (and glared at the guy who recommended them) but I live over 600KM's from where they were bought, and the only way to get back is a $350 plane ticket on tope of the $120 I paid for them.
If anyone knows of how to cancel this auto-muffle 'battery saver' issue I'd be very grateful. Thank you.
