Sonic and Tails/ Sonic 2. The last game that had no major screw ups and a decent A.I. partner. While I LOVE the adventure series they took some of the attention away from sonic and gave Knuckles retarded missions. After Generations they need to bring Tails back as a partner.

Sonic 2 or Sonic and Knuckles.
Sonic Adventure 2 was alright, but nothing can beat Sonic 2 in my nostalgia filled brain.

I've only ever played Sonics 1 and 2, and out of those the second was definitely the best. It has probably the best soundtrack out of them all, and I love the level designs.

And besides, Tails is there too. :D

SA2B all the way. Granted, I wasn't too hot about the characters that weren't hedgehogs. But Sonic and Shadow, good times indeed. Final Rush still gets me excited.

i really enjoyed the day levels of unleashed but the night levels were so tedious that the game was overall mediocre. same with sonic adventure 2, with the amy and big parts being awful. My favorite overall is SAB2

I agree, but I found Knuckles/Rouge funner. I got all A's for Knuckles.

Sonic Adventure 2, that game is linked to so many happy memories from my childhood that even looking at the games box can improve my mood. It was the game vs me, my sister, and our cousin. Sure the script was complete and utter shit and the english voice acting was abrasive as hell but underneath all of that was a great story and every other part of the game was awesome enough to make us overlook the flaws. The band behind most of the music, Crush 40, is definitely in my top 5 bands of all time. Also CHAO! My god raising for those little creatures became a game unto itself. It ignited a heated competition between me and my sister that sometimes turned bloody. We got into actual arguments over them, especially when one of hers disappeared.

I could easily ramble on for paragraphs about that game.

Disagree. Hated the treasure hunt levels, hated the shooting levels, hated Knuckles' music (Yeah we in Aquatic Mine mothafucka!) Hero story was endlessly padded. Nothing happens in it, especially when Tails or Knuckles take over, Sonic's second-fiddle to Shadow in his own game.

To be fair, the Evil story was pretty boss and every character there really shined (yes, even Rouge the Bat--in a group like that, you need a new set of eyes to look at what's going on and unravel the mysteries). The overall quality of the game still turns out pretty good, with some of the best level design of the 3D Sonic games to date for Sonic and Shadow's levels, but all in all, I felt like this was the Sonic title that launched 90% of the bad trends that landed everything up through Sonic 2006 in such hot water.

My favorite is Sonic Adventure 1. I don't even think it's necessarily the best 3D Sonic title to date (that title goes to Colors), but it was innovative as hell and did a great job blending all the things we had come to associate with Sonic up to that point. It had the continuity and sense of fun that made the Genesis games, it had the sense of mischief from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and the comics, and it had some of the darker-ish tone from SatAM. Where past Sonic games were just about being the pinball with legs, this one was dedicated solely to fleshing out the universe of these games, realizing the world in which Sonic belonged in a more believable and strongly defined light. I don't know what it is about Station Square, but to this day it stands to me as the best hub world the Sonic games has ever had.

I can't remember which one I owned, but it was either Sonic Rivals or Sonic Rivals 2 for the PSP. The game itself was quite entertaining, especially the boss battles, and I enjoyed the amount of decent voice acting it featured.

Sonic 3 and knuckles.

It's really long, has lots of secrets, is fun both for speedrunning and for exploring levels, and has 3 similar, yet unique characters. It's the best one, IMO.

Colors comes pretty close though.

SA2B easily, Sonic Heroes is a close second.

Both games had great gameplay, excellent soundtracks and the occasional amusing bug.

Sonic Heroes also had a badass secret story, and Super Hard mode was great.

I love Sonic CD personally.

Mainly because of the kickass music, and the wacky level designs.

However, my overall favourite has got to be Sonic 2. The first Sonic Adventure was frikken amazing too.

Sonic 2 was awesome, but I must agree - Sonic CD was absolutely amazing, mainly because it has one of the best game soundtracks ever produced (in the Japanese/Euro version of the game - the music was different in the US version). I also loved the mechanic of changing the future by going back to the past to stop Robotnik, but having it be optional so it affected the ending of the game in a limited way.

Sonic & Knuckles - perhaps partly because it was the last of the "original" Sonic games that I owned but mostly because of the backwards compatibility which when I was a kid seemed like something from the future...I was suitably amazed. Plus, playing Sonic 3 & Knuckles was great fun.

Though the original Sonic the Hedgehog gets a mention for having my favourite level in a 16-bit Sonic game - Starlight Zone. I was admittedly hoping to see that level be redone in Sonic Generations, but I guess we can't have everything. Would have been interesting to see how they would have interpreted that zone in the 3D levels as I've always wondered where (or what) the Starlight Zone was actually meant to be.

Yeah, I've heard the music for the US version is pretty bad when compared to Europe, and Japanese versions.
