Am I the only person relieved that we aren't getting Hoenn remakes in Gen V? Not that I have anything against the remakes, as HeartGold is my favorite Pokemon game, but Generation III was easily my least favorite, and Hoenn had a lot of promise that its story never delivered on, mainly the conflict between Aqua and Magma which really gets brushed over far more than it should.

Anyone in agreement? Or am I just rambling crazy thoughts?

I can't agree with you on the the Gen III hate. It was one of the best Generations.

I'm glad we aren't getting a remake at all to be honest. It's long, long past the time that Gamefreak upped its game and made some changes to the graphics/style and hopefully gameplay. Honestly people give COD a bad rap for not innovating but Pokemon is way worse in that regard.

I agree, I actually really hated the Pokemon in Generation III. A lot of people consider it to be the best though, but I really can't see why. The story, as you say, is really insignificant and basic to me. I love Generation II, probably because the story focuses more on your actual character and your progression to the Elite Four, and your rival was truly someone you wanted to beat. Also, the personal connection with the legendary Pokemon (particularly in Crystal, with Suicune) actually gave it significance. In R/S/E I just felt like I was adventuring around, occasionally stumbling onto the antics of Aqua and Magma and their awakening legendary Pokemon, and that was about it. You didn't really need to be there at all, and it's not until the very end that you actually have a part in that plot.

I was kind of hoping they'd remake Gen III... a little underwhelmed really. But on the bright side, new Pokémon announcement means concept Legendaries:

Have they announced that they won't do it? I know it's probably unlikely anyway but they may still do it. There wouldn;t be a point though - they're choosing to innovate this time around with 3D graphics, etc, so to remake Gen III would feel like a step in the wrong direction... unless they did it in 3D?

I wouldn't be very excited for it unless it mixed up the formula again - of all the things that had me excited for HG and SS, the biggest was Pokemon always following you around. It felt a lot more like they were your companions for them to actually walk with you. I kinda hoped they would continue with that...
