I just read an article on CNN that surprised me a little.
The whole "you know" thing is pretty rooted into common American (hell, maybe global) vernacular, and it's always one that kind of amuses me because people just do it so freaking much. We'd be screwed if that ever became a drinking game.
So anyhoo, I'm torn between two words; "w00t" and "epic". W00t seems immature and nonsensical, and epic is the new extreme, which was the new awesome, which was the new totally radical to the max. I can't stand that Epic is now a slang word, and now everything is "epic".
So, what word(s) annoy you most of all?
Nearly half of Americans surveyed said they find "whatever" to be the most annoying word or phrase, according to a poll by the Marist Institute for Public Opinion.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/10/08/most.annoying.words/index.html"You know" was the second most annoying phrase.
That phrase was spotlighted last winter, when Caroline Kennedy was being considered for the U.S. Senate seat from New York, vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton.
At one point, Kennedy said "you know" four times in one sentence.
"You know, I can tell you, you know, in my family, you know, there was a sense, you know, we have to work twice as hard," she said.
Politico.com said Kennedy used the phrase 142 times in the Times interview.
