A few friends and I were hanging out in my apartment yesterday. We were trading stories and making jokes. At one point, two of my friends who are both in the same class, started talking about how the author of a required class text constantly says "so" a lot.
This reminded me that there are words that unerringly cling to our everyday diction to the point that we cease to recognize that we are even saying them. For example, I have a habit of prefacing many of my sentences with "basically" or using "seriously" to describe.
So listen carefully to yourself. Notice anything you say just a little too often?
