I recently got a few 10-day passes for WoW from the Starcraft II box. (Wily ol' Blizzard) I'm trying to figure out what class I would most like playing to make the most out of my time. My previous experience is:

EVE: Scientist, used drones for fighting, produced starship blueprints to make money instead of killing.

Star Trek Online: I classify myself as a battle-medic, who stays on the front line fighting the good fight, but making sure that line is held by powerful healing.

I keep hearing about Mages, Clerics, Wizards, but I don't know exactly which if any would fit my personality. Any suggestions?

WoW healers: Resto Druid. They heal over time and are more of a support healer.
Resto Shaman: Heavy hitting healers. Very good at what they do. Very fun healing IMO.
Holy Pally: Most of the time, you or your target will never die based on how awesome they are. (Preferred Tank Healer)
Holy Priest: Large heals healer. A little stiff in terms of healing.
Disc Priest: Good in PvP and PvE. BUBBLES, BUBBLES, BUBBLES!!!!!!! (Preferred Tank Healer)

Troll Hunters are easy to play and can get very powerful. If you are just trying it out, start with that. You also get to tame pets which you use to keep monsters away from yourself.
If you want a little more challenge Troll Mages are thee coolest class mon. If you want to heal as well, Troll Priest... Mon.

If you are not playing a Troll youre not playing it right.

Obvoius troll is obvious. (See waht I did there? :D)

I played mage, it was pretty fun just standing behind your party members and spamming "1" (ice bolt in my case)

Everyone hates Hunters though. There are too many of them and they have a nasty reputation of rolling need on any gear that has stamina regardless of whether or not the weapon is meant for them to use.

The 10 day trial is not long enough to give each class a proper testing as the trial will not let you get past lvl 20 and thats when they get better.
Druid is one of my favourite classes and is very versatile but all classes are fun in their own way.
Hope you enjoy your trial and try not to let the many childish idiots put you off as there are so many nice players out there that are willing to help.

From what you said you should try warlock, he has minions who really help in fight and besides that he is also a good caster and if you wanna have fun with crafting you should try engineering and mining but Im not sure how its is with tradeskills for trials.
And if you really cant decide just go with shaman, druid or paladin. I would say that shaman is good with using everything at once (healing, casting, melee), druid is better in using everything but he can change between fighting styles rather then using them all at once and paladin is just nice fighter who will last long because of heals and protection spells.
Thats probably all you need to know for trial.

Definately go Resto Shaman, very easy to play very fun. Paladin is also very fun to play due to it having all 3 spes. Dps,tank, healer.

Can you go into the difference between Druid and Shaman a bit more? Thanks!
Druids rely on shape shifting to boost their abilities. Shaman rely on totems, totems also give buffs to the party.

Try them all out is my suggestion.

I enjoyed playing my rogue over my other characters because they are so fun to PvP with.

That is true indeed. It was just a suggestion because OP has some free playtime vouchers and hunters can handle a lot of things (even dungeons, if they outlevel them a tiny bit) by them selves.

Well I obviously played a troll (mage (frost, fire, arcane, frost-fire, everything)), but trolls were considered the coolest race the 3 years I played WoW. They were rarely the most powerfull race. Their racial abilities weren't very good. Armor looks terrible on them and they don't show their boots either. But everybody loved them. I'm quite sure just being a troll saved me from being ganked a few times.

And my main nuke was on [2], dunno why.

Considering what you played in other games, maybe Shamans is a good option for you. You can be an Elemental (mage-like) specced Shaman, with healing abilities. Shamans also have a melee side to them, they are fun to play with, but very challenging to learn.

If you want an easier playing style, go hunter, probably the easiest starter class there is.

My first suggestion would be to play a real MMO, my good sir.

But seriously, Try them all out and see which one suits you. Get each to like 20ish.

WoW is as real as it gets for MMOrpgs, hence why it is currently King.

Everyone hates Hunters though. There are too many of them and they have a nasty reputation of rolling need on any gear that has stamina regardless of whether or not the weapon is meant for them to use.
There are other reason that people hate hunters. They have are notorious for peeling monsters off a tank by attacking way too soon (i.e. before the tank has had sufficient time to build up enough threat), they tend to let their pet run rampantly around so that the entire room gets pulled, and it seems like 99% of them forget to turn Growl off when they enter the instance.

But yeah, I've had the 'roll on Stamina gear' happen to me before. In my case it was an axe, which I as the tank luckily won. The hunter threw a fit, saying that it was better for him and that I'd better give it to him or he would send one of his supposed level 80 characters after me. He was promptly kicked from the party.

Back on topic, I thought that healing as a Shaman to be pretty boring. It was basically 'drop the totems, then play whack-a-mole with the shiny green bars'. At least as a Priest you have multiple ways of mitigating damage, as opposed to just dropping a heavy heal every couple of seconds. The only variance came when the situation called for a different totem. The upside was that totems are much easier to keep track of as buffs, as you're constantly canceling and reacasting them - you never need to worry about forgetting to refresh your buffs.

i like being a tuaren dk. but you cant be that, if this is your first time playing, dont be a tuaren, thier starter quests suck. but if you can get past lv 13 with a tuaren, you will probably be in good shape. class wise, id say pally or hunter, they can be op.

Close your eyes, cycle the classes for what race looks coolest to you and go from there. Soon enough you'll love your class and defend it to the death on the forums.

If you want a frontline healer the go with a druid, shaman, or palidan.

If you want a secondary body to control then go warlock.

The easiest class to play as a beginner is probably a Hunter, at least thats what I believe.

Mages are IMMENSELY fun to play as, Warlock's are pretty cool too.

Healing wise, I used to play a Holy Paladin, which make neat healers, so I'd recommend those too. Because they are a hybrid class, you can change your mind at any time and decide to DPS or Tank instead of healing. This is also true for Druids, the games true jack of all trades.

In all honesty though, the games pretty easy to play, especially if you've played EVE, which has a really high learning curve. The WoW learning curve isnt too difficult, so just pick whatever race and class YOU think is cool and go from there =)
