Ahoy hoy!

I thought some denizens of the forums might enjoy this game my brother and I invented.

Essentially I cut out areas from maps of World of Warcraft and drew the boundaries in on paint, and then quizzed my brother on what the names of these places actually are. I was too stupid/lazy to keep the original maps, but you might wanna be kind and upload clean versions of the maps so that you and your friends can play too.

We both used to play WoW extensively for about 5 years, but it has been about 4 years since we actually played it. Here are the results of my brother's attempts:

Played it for roughly the same time-scale as you, around the same time, and your brother has done a much better job than i did looking at those maps.

Is that first picture the right-hand side continent in the vanilla game? Because i remember there were the Arathi Highlands and Arathi Basin there. And the area Naxx was in was West... something, there was an East... something as well. Plaguelands!! ? That's my guess.

Gnomeygon in the last pic is Gnomeragan (sp) if i remember, terrible little dungeon.

That's pretty much all i got though. I can remember the places, but not the names at all.

Yeah, sorry I probably should have labelled which parts of the world they were supposed to be. The first image is the northern part of the pre-TBC Azeroth map, the second one is Outland and the third one is the southern half of the pre-TBC Azeroth map.

I did way better than my brother did originally, but by no means did I get near 100% accuracy. Yeah, you got the Eastern & Western Plaguelands right, but Naxx was in the Eastern one.

Oh, and yeah, Gnomeregan was just plain awful.

Wait if there wasn't burning crusades were Eversong forest and the Ghostlands just blocked off? I never played Vanilla started and TBC. Oh and I was able to name all of the top maps ones though only when Shpongled mention the Arthi Highlands then it all clicked.

Edit: Accidentaly called Eversong Elwynd.

Yeah, Eversong and Ghostlands only got implemented as of TBC. Tbh, I'm pretty positive they just didn't exist at all and they were just tacked on to the continent when TBC was released. Someone with a better memory/more knowledge might be able to clarify

Pretty much. Until Burning Crusade, the path to the Blood Elf area was blocked off.

Edit: Also, considering I played it for years and just got back into it a month ago, I had no issue naming all the zones. Even how they were changed in Cataclysm.

Ninja'ed me. Anyway, they were perceptually tacked on to the Eastern Kingdoms. Technically, in the software, they actually exist in the same instance as Outlands.

Well done to you Whateveralot! That's not bad going at all. And how could you possibly not have played TBC as much as Vanilla?! TBC was quite literally a revolution! I'd go far as to say that Blizzard just nailed every aspect of TBC perfectly and allowed WoW to become as close to perfection as they could have possibly done.

I spend more time looking at the map of old world. Eventhough I came in at the very end of vanilla, I liked alting. Giving it some time I could probably come up with alot of it, but it's late now and I tire of your games.

I am afraid that I can probably name more place on a map of Azeroth than on a map of... uhh... let's say anything between Turkey and China.
