Every time a big publisher makes a mistaek they'll everything except admit they're wrong

So without further ado let's begin

DRM never came to it, it was about creating a MMO experiance- Frank Gibeau on Simcity's always on DRM

We don't want to allow modding unless we were 100% sure we could do it- Dice explaining why Battlefield 4 won't have modding capabilities

The reason for Xbox One's always on connection is to keep all your games up to date

I thought the reason for Xbox One's always on connection was to 'use the cloud's processing capabilities' (which is obviously bullshit, since the latency alone would kill singleplayer games).

Cloud computing might not have been the true reason for the always-on requirement, but if you believe that outsorcing tasks to the cloud is "bullshit", you might be in for a rude awakening in the not so far away future.

For me, it has to be the lack of backwards compatibility for Xbox One and Playstation 4.
Why is that bullshit? There are perfectly valid technical and financial reasons for not having backwards compatibility.
If anything, wouldn't backwards compatibility make you more likely to buy a new console? So what would be the purpose of not having that if it wasn't for good reasons?

Because any moment now, Xbox Live will be disconnected on the 360, just to make way for it on the Xbox One.
You're right. After all they switched off Live on the original Xbox the second the 360 launched...Oh wait no they didn't.It actually wasn't discontinued until 5 years later

Day one DLC being made because "It gives the team something to do in between the main game being finished and the game being released".

It's true that it does give them something to do, but that is not the reason for why they do it. Game developers got on just fine for the decades before DLC was released for everything. Money is the reason for pretty much every trend in recent years, which isn't always a bad thing, but the excuses they try and make for it are.

What makes this even worse is that while Sony promised to stream Playstation 3 games on the PS4, Microsoft refused to make that same promise for Xbox One. That means I can't replay the entire Mass Effect trilogy or Dragon Age Origins on Xbox One, and would probably have to switch to a Playstation 4 with Gaikai support in order to play either.
If you look up the technical side of this you'll see there's a ton of good reasons for lack of backward compatibility. The system architecture they're using now makes development and porting a whole lot easier, which will save developers a lot on their budgets. Because X86-64 is different from PowerPC and Cell, it's not feasible to even attempt backwards compatibility without either extra hardware (look how well that went on PS3) or spending loads of time and money on software emulation, and I heavily doubt emulating the PS3's Cell processor is even possible on current hardware.

OT: Personally I think ANY excuse for DRM is a bad excuse, no exceptions.

"Appeal to a wider audience"

You mean bland things down to a homogenized, boring, lifeless mess that ends up not really appealing to anyone, in a vain attempt of getting more of the same audience you've always been courting?

To expand on the OP, the "SimCity can't work offline because vital parts of the game depend on an internet connection" one was pretty bad.

Mostly because someone then went and made it work offline.

It was a dozen different excuses, which is what makes it all the more disingenuous.

BTW, they claimed you couldn't just flip a switch and get rid of the DRM, yet they did basically that.

They can play those games, from Games on Demand. Both services for PS4/Xbox One will be released shortly after release.
That's been stated for the PS4, but has it been confirmed for the Bone?

Even still, "sometime in 2014" isn't exactly a firm "soon."

What I would've said has already been said.

SimCity's always online excuses, and "Appeal to the wider audience". So to summarise, thank deity for GTA V for just wanting the game to be fun.

I don't really get this complaint. If you have both consoles and the games on your 360, why do you need to play it on your Xbone?
Because any moment now, Xbox Live will be disconnected on the 360, just to make way for it on the Xbox One.
How many times do you need to be told that XBL on the 360 will have years of support after the Xbone releases, before it sinks in?

XBL on 360 is going to be around for years.

So they can make you rebuy them on their online store?
