What are some of the worst ways player characters, enemies, bosses, npcs, etc. kicked the bucket in video games? I think getting blasted with the bfg from Doom, I mean come on! It shoots a giant death ball of green energy that vaporizes beings!! Also getting crushed by a pudgy plumber that bounces on your head kinda sucks too. :p

Accidentally killing yourself in a multiplayer match is always pretty humbling. One badly thrown grenade, one ill timed jump, and next thing you know everyone who's paying attention is chuckling at the little kill notice in the corner of their screen over the idiot that just offed themself.

There's that time in Insurgency I peeked over a cliff with my RPG and fired only to have wonky ballistics model have the rocket hit the edge of said cliff and blow me back through the air. The worst part was hearing the guy I was aiming at tell his friends about it in voice chat.

In Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, suffocating to death because you forgot how to breathe after getting your intelligence dropped to 0 for whatever reason.

Yep nothing beats a good old accidental suicide. Having a grenade hit a wall and bounce back at you is always a laugh.

From what I've seen out of videos of The Last of Us, there are quite a lot of gruesome ways to die.

The bits at the beginning where you can have Joel get mauled by an infected while he's carrying his daughter made me cringe quite a bit. Also, the way the game cuts out the bit where Joel either gets bitten or gets his face ripped off by a bloater is kinda eerie as well. You kinda know what happened, but at the same time, it lets you use your imagination to picture the result. And the imagination can make some pretty scary things.

As for personal experience, while I was playing MGS2, I had to walk across this pipe or girder and I accidentally slipped on some seagull shit and fell into the ocean. Kind of an embarrassing way to die. :/

This one will always haunt my memories:

Painfully being ripped apart like some plaything and your still alive even in it's stomach.

I watched that and got 99% of the same death over and over again.

Gruesome the first time? Yes. After that? No.

I know it's only a perspective thing but I've seen worse bites than that. (Not in real life of course)

I started playing DayZ again after being fed up with it and quitting a year ago. Pretty much any death in DayZ.

Two nights ago my vehicle exploded when I hit a bump in the road, I flew out the side, and after the sniper fire started up; (there's always a sniper)- I tried to make my character weave side to side and run to a ditch. What actually happened is my character floated across the ground with no walking animation in a straight line, and promptly got stuck on a buttress of the bridge where I was shot by the sniper...

But the shot didn't kill me, oh no- you are knocked down and have to watch this stupid hour glass animation, immobile, while the sniper takes several more shots at your character until you get the "you are dead" screen.

I'll probably uninstall it after getting in a solid full weekend with it. There's no other games out there for me right now and I am that bored.

After a grueling long boss fight and you finally whittled his health down to like two more hits he hits you with his super boss move and kills you. Double rage points for you using all your items have a sliver of health and about to kill him and get offed by his weakest attack. Either way I'm going to say some unkind things to the screen.

I think dying while under the influence of Silent Hill (Or anything/anyone drawing power from Silent Hill) is the worst fate imaginable in gaming. You know the towns not finished with you after your death, you just know it has plans that likely have to do with twisting and mangling your form and very existence for it's sick purposes.

Dying during a multiple phase boss fight that doesn't have mid-boss fight checkpoints. Somebody already mentioned the power of Silent Hill so there.

Well, it depends on the scenario really. If we take SH2 as an example, all of the other characters that die tend to die because they were unable to deal with their demons and as such were at peace in death (flaming staircase *hint* *hint*), but dying because of Silent Hill is still pretty brutal.

The recent Tomb Raider was pretty terrible towards Lara. Sometimes even too much for my taste.

Also, the first Prince of Persia stuck me always as pretty brutal.

And Hotline Miami, but that goes without saying.
