Every find yourself looking at certain foods and wondering if you could try something a little different with them? For example, a lot of breakfast cereals have a very similar texture and make up (wheat and corn etc.) to many snack foods. Apart from there cheesy favour these snacks seem very similar. So I decided to try some with milk... not good. Kinda macaroni and cheesy but well not good.

So Escapists, when have you tried something a little different with your food. How was the outcome? Culinary genius, or total foodfail?

I made pasta sauce with an entire bottle of wine and an entire bottle of glenfiddich 25 year old scoth in it once.

Surprisingly good, but thank got it was in a slow cooker set to 10 hours, so the alchohol was all gone with just the taste

I tried pop-tart cheeseburgers once. it hurt my soul. I'm gonna go weep in the corner until the memories go away.

Alcohol is actually a common ingredient in pasta sauce. When you first pour it in, your food smells like rubbing alcohol, but the alcohol itself boils off pretty quickly, leaving the flavor of the wine, bourbon, or what have you. If I do it, it usually involves a dutch oven on the stove. I'd imagine that doing it in a crock pot would leave the kitchen smelling like a bar for quite a while.

OT: I remember the time I added some vinegar to a marinade I was making for some chicken breasts that I planned on grilling. My sister caught wind of it, freaked out, and brought my mom into it. She freaked out too, made me throw out the marinade, and had me mix up a new batch, minus the vinegar. By this point, the chicken had already done a fair bit of pickling, which is exactly what I wanted; those were the juiciest chicken breasts I ever ate.

Many flavors traditionally go together for a reason. Throwing things together willy-nilly rarely does it for me. However, there are some wonderful outta-the-ballpark foods I've tried before, like a raspberry-champagne chutney on raw oysters.
Also, add pumpkin spice to your next glass of chocolate milk or hot chocolate.

If you like them on their own, you will not be disappoint with this addition.

Noope, kitchen smelt clean, but the recipe was very heavy in the beed in tomato sauce too, so I'm guessing it got some help being masked

I accidentally put paprika on my ice cream, thinking how awesome it would be to have brown sugar on my ice cream.

I think the smell should have tipped me off...

Thank you! That is going on my to-create-list!

I tried to make my own cornish pasties but with just five choices of meat neatly folded into pastry. Salami and ham were two but cant remember the rest, it being over 10 years ago now in high school.

It worked up a treat but felt incredibly unhealthy so I didn't make them too much after I learnt how to do it

When crubbleing the biscuits, make a good mix of ginger dust but also some fair sized chunks. ;)

Once, on a stupid dare when I was in elementary school, I tried putting sugar on my pizza. It was actually quite good. But Mom didn't let me have any more... something about sugar overload when we would be on a bus for another few hours. Pfft, parents.

Breakfast is not usually savory.
Bacon and Eggs kinda is! But yeah i think it was the milk that ruined it.

Another thing that actually works well, tasty cheese and milk chocolate. Go for it!

Leftover spaghetti with some milk and sugar then in the microwave is pretty tasty, if a bit unusual. I guess you could make a sort of pasta-based version of rice pudding; could be quite nice. :)

Hmmmm, i actually love dipping things like Fries, Potato Chips, and Chicken Strips in Ice cream.

And Cheetos taste great dipped in a bowl of Peanut Butter and Jelly.
I mix the PB and Jell together whenever i eat it.
