Given the games you listed that you like, and those that you don't... I'd say that it's 50/50 on whether you will like it or not. The story and characters in Persona 4 are a bit of a mixed-bag to me. All of the characters are very well-developed and play off of each other well, and you really do end up caring about each of them by the end. However, there are definitely a few that I, personally, found to be annoying and just unlikable, but your mileage may vary. The story is a pretty standard murder-mystery, and odds are you'll either quickly figure out who the killer is and wonder what's taking the gang so long, or you'll figure it out at the same time they do. It's a solid mystery, regardless, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. The real meat of the story is watching the characters interact with one another and mature as both people and a team, and as I implied earlier, they do a great job with that.
As for the combat, it's all turn-based and, barring mini-bosses and bosses, fights will be over in a matter of three or four turns (and trust me, you want them to if you intend to make serious progress in any dungeon), although with that said you can also die just as quickly as the enemies if you're unprepared. The dungeons are all themed in pretty non-standard ways (no fire, water, etc. dungeons) with a few standouts, but if you intend to do all of the sidequests in the game you will see the same ones a lot. That can make the grind a bit monotonous, but it's largely optional, and if you ever want a break from it then there are a lot of other sidequests you can do throughout the game. You'll always have something to do, which means you're always progressing in some way.
The pacing is...ehhh, it's okay. Every month or so an event will happen and you need to complete it before a certain day. You're free to complete it the day it happens or at the last second, but if you do it early, then the story grinds to a halt until the day after the deadline. What this amounts to is that you'll find yourself doing myriad other tasks to pass the time between story beats, but because you would often end up doing them anyway it's not as bad as it sounds.
Sorry for being a bit long-winded, but I figured being thorough would best, heh. TL;DR, Great character development and interactions, although some characters are hit-or-miss. The story is solid and should keep your attention. Combat is fast and turn-based, strategic, but can become a touch monotonous. The pacing is stop-and-go, but there's always something to do during the lulls in the 60-70 hour story.
