ok, to start this off i must stress that i am not homophobic. but im watching the last fight of ac3 and made the joke "what if ezio just kissed the guy?" unfortunatly i dont know how to do a spoiler alert thing, but anyone thats done the fight should see why its semi homo-erotic. but heres my question, if there was a game like AC or even GTA where the main protagonist (you) came out of the closet at any point in the game, whether it was beginning, middle, or end, would it effect the game for you in any sense?

Funnily enough, and this is kinda ironic, I think that that sort of thing should be a 'choice' made by the player, ala Fable 2,3, etc. where you can marry someone from either gender. Some people might not feel comfortable with that, but I guess it's hardly different from forcing homosexual gamers to play womanising, straight, burly blokes.

Also, the thread title should be 'affect'. Sorry, force of habit.

It would affect my interpretation of the character. It is unlikely that such a change would have any effect on my experience with the game.

Fallout New Vegas (as an example) has a pair of gay characters: Arcade Gannon and Veronica Santangelo. While the eventual revelation did offer a moment of "Well that explains it" for either, it didn't alter my choice of companion for the moment nor did it change the game itself.

So did I, and your mistake was what drew me to the thread. Funny how I came in just to correct you and two people ahd already done it before me lol.

OT: It wouldn't affect me to be honest if a protagonist "came out". If it was done right and not just a "LOL, he's suddenly gay despite having sex with a load of women through the game" kinda thing then it would actually be an interesting narrative choice in a game for once....

Wait--you're telling me that Ezio isn't gay (or at least Bisexual)? That's news to me.

...So, no. I guess it wouldn't.

I actually suspect some kind of relationship betwen Ezio and Leonardo... but anyways...

IT would bother me somewhat, not the fact the character is gay, but what the public reaction would be from parents and Fox news. I personally would think, "Well, thats something you dont see everyday... would also explain why he isnt going aftr Betty Boop there."

I did not know Arcade was homosexual...that explains it though.

OT: Not really, I might find it a bit odd if they made me do gay things but I wouldn't mind if the character was simply homosexual.

The only reason it would get to me if it was halfassed and thrown in there to either appease the squeeling fangirls who get off on this stuff, or just to throw a twist into a game that needed a spark to get it going

They could have Master Chief end up gay with the Arbitor, or Marcus for Dom (or vise versa) and I'd be fine with it, AS LONG AS IT'S DONE TASTEFULLY AND IN A SKILLED MANNER

And by AC3, you mean Brotherhood, does that actually count as AC3 or is it's 2.5 and 3 is on the way?

Probably not, unless its key to the person's character that they arent. I dont judge on Race, Gender, Creed, or Sexual Preference cause I'm not shallow like that. Oka that was being a little mean, but just saying is all.

Still, I'd like to direct us toward the Episode of Extra Credits when they covered Sexual Diversity.

Why yes I do mean that one, thank you me. That was intergul to the character and plot (kinda?) and when I found out Naoto Shirogane was a chick that wanted to be a guy, that honestly surprised me and made the game better (not that it really had to try to, Persona 4 was amazing). Mostly cause I had never seen a game dare to touch on both issues at once or hell, even one with any real conviction, and partly cause I thought I could fall in love with the character. But I dont swing that way (noting against the homosexual lifestyle. I've thought about it and honestly almost tried it but in the end it wasnt for me [and weirdly enough I broke a kid's heart even though I told him I wasnt homosexual and he knew I wasnt, yet he still decided he would wait for me or get a sex change for me... but thats neither here nor there]) so I didnt get that kinda emotional attachment that I had with Yukiko, who I fell for.

It wouldn't really be a player choice though. If they were going to do it they'd have to announce it at the start of the game. And seeing as the biggest market for video games is (I'm assuming) heterosexual males, it doesn't make sense for there to be a gay male lead.
