say you woke up in a saw-esque type situation where conventional escape was impossible, and the only option was to comply with the rules of your captor. basicly, there's no way to avoid the two options he gives you.

1. you can get tortured to death, then he'll kill himself.
2. you can avoid your fate by giving him all the information he needs to aquire anyone else you choose, then he'll torture them to death in front of you, then release you and become docile. he'll allow you to choose his fate after that, kill him, turn him in, walk away, he won't resist.

edit edit: just in case it wasn't clear: you have to be able to give him the information he needs to aquire this person, it can't be just some random person you don't know. it has to be someone you know enough about to be able to provide sufficient information, address, where they might be at a certain time, etc.

so you have someone in mind? you have to be able to give him the information he needs to aquire this person, it can't be just some random person you don't know. it has to be someone you know enough about to be able to provide sufficient information, address, where they might be at a certain time, etc.

There's nobody that I like nor dislike that really meets that criteria, so it's not like I'd have to pick a friend. A handful of people I'm not fond of that would serve just as well as anyone else I know.

A more interesting question would be if you could only choose an immediate family member. But I'd still go with option 2 because I'm not all that fond of my sister. I don't dislike her or anything but her existence has very few positive effects on my life. Of course, watching my sister being horrifically killed before my eyes would probably mess me up for life.

2) I can give him the information to find and kill a dictator, or a mass murderer, or really any one else, I don't like killing people, but better someone insane/horrible compared to me.

Option 1.

I don't know anyone well enough to provide info on that I'd want to kill... and even if I DID know someone well enough that I wouldn't miss, I couldn't do it.

Even if I lived, my decision would haunt me forever. If I have to die so someone else can live, so be it.

But that doesn't mean I'd go quietly. I'd spit, I'd bite, I'd do everything in my (admittedly in that position, little) power to make his day as miserable as possible.

Besides, he probably WANTS me to pick option 2, why else would he offer it? I'm not going to play his twisted game.
