So it's finally happened... Zombies shuffle among us. The slow but steady plague has spread to all corners of the globe and sightless eyes stare blankly in the world's greatest cities. But I'm getting off topic...

How long would you survive in an undead world?

Would you be one of the first to fall victim to cold, bloody hands, or would you be the one to crawl out of the rubble of the world, alive and ready for anything?

Be honest... If your 350 lbs. and the light of day burns your skin, don't say "I will survive!".

EDIT: Oh yeah, BTW... these are NOT the Left 4 Dead, Steroid-and-Redbull crazed Zombies that run like Olympic sprinters... these are more like "Dead Rising" zombies...

I will survive. I'm a survivalist. Me and my friends have stores of food and ammuntion tucked away in a remote part of the Texas desert. Infact we have enough for roughly 30 people for 3 years. (Rice and Beans go a long way.) We even have an evac plan to get there from our place or residence. We have fuel reserves and generators if needed, but we'd attempt to camp more than use the gas and such.

We also are all gun owners and very proficient with them. I for one could equip no less than 6 people with heavy weapons (larger than a .22 LR) for personal defense, and then use .22LR's for small game hunting.

I would scarcely say that anybody on these forums are actually more prepared for a total shit storm than myself. Are our preperations a bit over the top? Yes, but everybody has to have a hobby. We go shooting, run tactical gun drills, practice stalking, go camping, go fishing and just generally all know how to live off the land and disappear into the landscape.

I could, but given the situation, I'd likely off myself.

I'm physically and emotionally strong enough to survive though, and if I did see some hope, I'd probably tough it out.

I might, I have a friend who's in possession of a fairly substantial arsenal, and many many vehicles.
It all depends on if he could survive and if he did, how quickly he could reach me.

I will survive. Between My penchant for long pointy objects and firearms I am well enough armed and I know more than a few easily defensible places to hole up.

Ehm. Probably not. I mean, I'd go down fighting, and I might be able to figure out some way to survive, but I'm not at all prepared for events like that.

Food and water would be the biggest problems, but seeing as I live in the UK, weapons of any kind are difficult to come by.

The best I've got is a display sword, and melee with zombies, especially a horde of zombies isn't that brilliant of an idea.

And I doubt I'd have the stamina to fight off more than maybe a half-dozen like that anyway.

So... No. Probably not.

Nope, I won't last long since I don't exercise that often. Hopefully I would die from a heart attack then being bitten or eaten alive. Ideally I would have like to forge and made some metal armour since the zombie can't scratch or bite you if you cover yourself in metal (but still retain some mobility).

I survive. It turns out zombies are a very ineffective disaster, and movies portray many unrealistic, incorrect or inconsistent details regarding their ability to damage or corrupt. [http://www.cracked.com/article_18683_7-scientific-reasons-zombie-outbreak-would-fail-quickly.html]

For one thing, it would take months of federal level neglect for a zombie outbreak to damage nations like the USA or Canada to the extent seen in games or movies, which is unrealistic compared to the SARS scare, which had entire countries locked down within hours after warnings that a spread could be occurring due to less than 10 infected people on one plane.

I've been preparing my whole life for this. I know the early warning signs, so hopefully when it's a full-on outbreak I'll be more than prepared. It's the people who can't handle losing others that are going to die early, so basically it's going to be the least "human" people who survive, who can make it through. If you're not willing to abandon someone who cannot be saved or kill a family member who has turned, you're not going to last long at all.

Just trying to save them in the first place would be your first, and last, mistake. In the event of an apocalypse, of any kind, you do NOT save anyone else. If you can help others without any harm coming to you, then fine, but otherwise you do whatever you can to ensure your own survival first. Work as a team with other survivors if you have to. But if someone doesn't have any sort of qualities that would be useful, if they're someone whose hand you'll need to hold, then screw them. They aren't worth you dying as well, if they're going to die anyway. Better to save yourself than die needlessly for someone useless. I realise I sound like a complete bastard there, but being kind isn't going to save humanity now, is it?

Anyway, I don't have any weapons other than knives, but there's a Territorial Army base within two miles of my flat and I know full well how to use a rifle, having had training with the L-98 and having considerable experience in firing that and several other types of rifle and one type of pistol. I also tend to be someone who can turn anything into a weapon in a pinch. I don't need to eat that much, and so a little rations goes a long way for me. I have a considerable talent at staying hidden and unseen, and if I can escape from my city then I'd be fairly good in the wilderness. If I can't escape the city then I know several places to hunker down, including my flat (which is on the first floor and has only one entry point, is easy to barricade, and has several doors to get in, with an easy escape route through the window if the door is breached) and the supermarket in which I work (again, very few points of entry, easy to barricade, and plenty of food and water if we need to wait a long time).

So yeah, I reckon I'd probably survive pretty easily... :D

Depends how much warning I had.

If I woke up and the area I'm in was already infested to the shithouse, my house wouldn't be the best place to hold up. Plus the best weapon I have here is probably some sharp kitchen knives and tools.

If I had a day or two of warning I would haul ass to my parent's place 30mins up the road. My dad has a few guns (plus keys to the police station gun lockyer =D), and their house actually is would be a good place to hold up.

Plus if they are the slow zombies, the grocery store is only a block away so we could do a quick trip and pick up some tinned food on the way.

I'm not sure, I live in a pretty rural area so there probably wouldn't be to many of them around and there is a hick town nearby so I could get some guns pretty easily. Food would probably be an issue but otherwise I might stand a chance.

Yeah, uhhhhhhhh.... I'd survive.
I think it's kind of funny how a single zombie succeeds in infecting almost an entire nation, despite said nation containing military bases bursting with guns and ammunition, not to mention hardware stores and even freaking wal-marts full of blades and bludgeons, yet a group of survivors somehow manage to take out hundreds or even thousands of zombies per person before succumbing. To be truthful, I really wouldn't have to "survive" against zombies that long: either they would freeze solid (right now) and I would aid in the zombiecicle-smashing effort with my crowbar (provided they could even survive freezing), or I would merely have to maintain a perimter around my house/go camping for the several weeks it takes them to decompose and literally fall apart.

I'm a nerd, so I have a large catalog of background knowledge on the subcect. Alone, however, this would not be enough.
I also have a crazy hillbilly father who, when most fathers were taking their kids to the park and teaching them football, was teaching how to throw knives and hatchets, and teaching me to shoot.
So, yes, I think I'd be okay. Background knowledge plus training in the practicl applications equals win.

You realize you could have summed up that entire first parragraph by exclaiming "you're a loose cannon maverick!"
Anyways you're probably right. Also there are alot of people in my life that I couldn't protect if I was dead. That being said I find a cry for help almost impossible to ignore.

I'd say this is a good case of "I'm a taxpaying citizen; I damn well better survive!"
