Would you want to live forever, if it meant your body wouldn't be with you?

I mean, there are a LOT of things we will never experience before we die. I don't want to seem depressing, but it's an inevitable truth. We simply cannot experience everything in one lifetime. However, lets say that, somehow within our lifetime, science comes up with a way to preserve our brains and eyes, possibly in a way similar to that of Futurama, so that we can live forever to see and remember these things, but we would no longer get to have our bodies. We wouldn't be able to feel anymore, or hold someone, or use anything. (Though, maybe a simulation could take care of that temporarily, if we're talking about future science and technology). Would you want to live forever in such a way if it meant you could see how the world progresses hundreds of thousands of years from now?

I honestly don't know. I don't feel like I can answer such a question in my life right now. I think I'd want to see how much I can experience in this lifetime and see if I get bored.

I'd like the option available to die - so if there was some way to kill myself in the virtual world, I'd probably go into it around the time my mortal body was failing. Being trapped eternally in a computer simulation doesn't particularly appeal to me though, I'm sure the bad memories would take over given time.

Fuck man, I don't want to live forever with my body. 80 or so years seems long enough to live for a bit but forever is a really long fucking time.

If I get a virtual world to play around in,yes, absolutely, my body sucks ass anyway. If it's just a brain in a jar type deal, fuck no, I'd get bored in a hurry. I mean, what possible point is there to just flaoting in a jar and watching the news to see what happens?

If it was one of the scenarios presented, either living in a virtual world, or being a brain in a jar, neither of those appeals to me in any way, so I'd have to pass. If I got a kickass cyborg body though...maybe.

I don't think I would mind living forever if all I had to do was trade my crappy worn out (by that time) body for a kickass cyborg body. Something along the lines of what the different cyborg characters have in Metal Gear Rising might be pretty sweet to have for a few hundred years until I'm bored of life. Plus, the longer you live the greater the chance that new and better cyborg bodies would be created, ones that could feel the way a normal human body would.

The only way I would want to live forever is if I could live in my imagination. The way you put it, no. I don't give a rat's ass how the future generation is doing, I'm dead. Living in a virtual world created by my imaginings would be pretty boss, I just suggest no one look at that world ever. You may go insane.

I'd go with living forever if I could get a sweet cyborg body and continue watching over this world. It'd be pretty cool to find out what a human can do if given infinite time.

If there was the chance of getting a cybernetic body further down the line then sign me up, and while I'm at it get me those papers so that I can change my name to Adam Jensen...

Considering how fast technology evolves, yeah I'd go for it. Odds are within 20 years or so, someone would have invented a fully functional android to place my conciousness in to.

I fear death. I don't know what's on the other side and I don't want to die. I want to continue to experience all life has to offer for as long as I can.

I don't have much attachment to my body; not being stuck with it would make immortality more interesting, actually. So not the best "but" for me.

That said, I wouldn't get in line nor would I run away from it. If someone proposed me with it, I'd probably shrug and ask if the process physically hurts. If the answer was, "Not really, no", then I'd probably go for it.

My mind and body belong together, they shape each other. A mind without a body will probably deteriorate quickly.

I think most people would be with me in saying that I would rather die. If you cant experience what you need to in 1 lifetimes worth, you aren't living right.

If it means I'll never die, I don't care how they do it. I'd prefer a Ghost in the Shell scenario, an actual ghost scenario, or a lich option over the full on Whisperer in Darkness treatment obviously, but since the alternative is oblivion I really don't care.

And if there were some shitty afterlife, I'd rather go with oblivion.
