Hey man,
Here is something you should never forget: just because people (maybe you too) generally become more jaded and close minded over the course of their lives, that doesn't mean that those attitudes are correct, merely that they are part of a natural progression, which may need to be fought.
Do you remember these quotations, which you always used to repeat to yourself?
'Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them'
Henry David Thoreau
'Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand - and melting like a snowflake...'
Francis Bacon, Sr.
Can you honestly dispute these notions on their own merits? Or are you going to dismiss them immediately just because when you thought them you were 'young and naive'? Look around you. Is anyone you see making the most of their life? You know the majority is not always right. Why are you allowing your opinions of what a good life is to be determined by those around you? It is the minority of people that do truly great things.
Every person is mortal, and so is running out of time. As you lie on your deathbed, what memories will you summon? You will not remember how much money you earned, or what promotions you got, or what stuff you owned. You will remember your friends, your lovers, creative works you made, unique experiences you had, and what altruistic actions you took purely for their own sake.
I hope that you have done something truly important with your life. It is never too late to do so. If there is any part of you that is still inflamed by these ideas, then you should look deep inside yourself, and ask whether you have truly been making something great of your life. Why are you not doing that which is most important to you with your short existence on this planet?
Good luck.
Regards,
You
