WTF is with Bravely Second's story

I was going to do this after I beat the game but I'm at chapter 2 and I'm just like, WTF is with this story. The Huge Riad like Bosses are named Ba'als. The the Main Character's makes Umbrella's out of the Ba'al's skin. This game has such violent shifts in tones, from being pretty up beat to super melodramatic.

The side missions are super weird because its probably the first time censorship has improved a story. To get some of the old Asterisk from the first game their will be two Asterisk holders and their will be a situation where you will have to side with one and fight the other. You would normally kill the one you fight in the Japanese game. Which is super screwed up because it stops you mid game to explain to you, if you don't fight this Astrisk holder you can't get their class. Yo Dawg I completely agree with your point of view but I need to kill you and take your Job class because its better and more useful. I haven't felt this shitty since you had to choose between killing the Zafords or the hodunks In Borderlands 2. One gave you a Chance for a legendary Pistol or a pretty bitching SMG with two elements.

I feel like the first game's story was more reasonable with its tongue and cheek attitude.

You can still get asterisks, just later on in the game. Also, the jp ver has different endings based on those choices. The western one only has the "good" ending no matter what choice you make, so cutting the bad ending is really terrible.

That's wack we only get the Good ending, did they really have to die for the bad ending to make sense.

Yeah, it's pretty tone deaf.
The first game goes through great lengths to dramatically paint the asterisk holders as irredeemable monsters to justify you attacking them and in the second one, it's all happy goofy sunshines.
Go on a merry vacation with hitler and stalin to choose between the hitler or stalin asterisk.

That and a lot of obnoxious gravy jokes and memes that have probably been added by the localization because that is their job now.
And then there is the soundtrack at which I could rage for half an hour but that is only because it juxtaposes the perfect storm that is the soundtrack of the first one.

Still a good game tho.
Would play this over the likes of ff13 any day of the week but will always recommend the first one over this.

Well let's remember, the main conflict for the first thirty freaking hours of gameplay in the first game was you fighting people you thought were bad guys, but it turns out they were fighting the real bad guys the whole time. And in their massive military campaigns across multiple continents, not a single one of them thought that maybe they should bring THAT little detail up. The writing in this series was never exactly stellar.

I can confirm that the gravy jokes and most puns are not in the Jp version but just added by the localizers. Also Magnolia doesn't use random French, she uses random English.

It's more that, by choosing to side with the wrong person, you kinda doom the people to suffer in this or that way. It's pretty bad but it makes the game feel as though your choices matter at least.

This is why I am happy the switch is region free. Now I can import these things and bypass nintendo's censorious motherfuckery. 3DS being region locked was such a travesty.

It's like 4kids ravaging anime all over again.
Next thing we know, a new earthbound game finally gets made and the localizers replace the OST with dubstep or something.
I can't understand how those clowns still have their jobs.

They also added "crotch-shadows" to hide some char's upper thighs, strategically placed objects to obscure cleavages (this being on the highly chibi deformed ingame models btw), most hilariously, concept art included in the art book that came with the LE of the game showing Agnes bound by a red string as she is being held captive had the string removed because it apparently triggered someone's BDSM phobia or something along those lines. Finally, the native American-looking class was changed to a cowboy-looking class because that's less racist presumably, and every character was aged up because 15 year olds in bikinis make people into pedos or something according to nintendo of America.

4kids is not too much of an exaggeration, sadly.

It's not censorship cause it's their choice ;).

If it's their choice that Japanese people are more capable to handle these components than westerners, then that is worse because it implies we are being underestimated, looked down upon, judged by a different standard.

Not sure which would be worse. I still call it censorship though since some of those elements such as the crotch-shadows weren't in Bravely Default for the same exact ingame models but somehow were found necessary here.

Oh god Bravely Second, this was one of the worst handled sequels in recent memory (for a good game). The battles are not much fun since you already know how to min max, the plot is just bad, especially with the atrocious translation. The side quests could had potential but can get extremely silly (murder mystery) with the good ending regardless ruins a lot of the choice (like the Black Mage one) and worse
If you actually followed your heart, you need to do the exact different choices in the second loop and they become the canon endings
Just a shame.
You can do multiple loops before beating it to control this but yeah this does extend the length too much.

Overall, I still liked the game a lot, it just had a lot of tiny, needless issues, a whole lot of em.

It's neither, it's just bizarre.
I mean I can kinda get the concept behind the de-sexualizing thing and I understand that you can't just translate verbatim and have to wriggle a figure of speech into context here and there but adding jokes and memes where there were previously none?
That's some next level stuff.
