People tend to forget.. Most of the US is Rural. Growing up in Texas, you will see people eat all sorts of scary things and not care that they did or bother even finding out how to make it safe to do so. We have an entire nation full of Eddies and Jethro's.

People in the US have no room to talk about people eating stupid and unsafe things.
China is just doing that as a publicity stunt anyhow, considering the Chinese government already knows the virus didn't even come from the market. They are just making a meaningless gesture at this point to address the massive misinformation blitz. This would have had zero impact on COVID-19, as it was contracted from bats in Guangdong, not Wuhan.

That's nice and all but if it's not Wuhan it's gonna be Thailand or Malaysia or Bangladesh or somewhere else. Enforcing First World hygiene standards in every third world country just to make sure a pandemic doesn't break out is simply not possible. And if lil devil xs post proves anything, we can't even expect a lot of the actual first world to do so.

Ok so that’s one down. Now start on the rest of the country.

There is also the huge grey area of it still being legal to breed these “exotic” animals for “traditional” medicine. That sounds like an excuse to keep the shitshow going. It must be practically impossible to enforce laws in a country with so many people.
Even though this is 'a step', it's barely worth the paper it's written on. If they actually enforced the ban, that might be something. Might.

But old auntie next door says it's nothing to do with her eating whatever roadkill her country-bumpkin relative brought over, so on it goes.

It's just conservatism, isn't it? Conservatism has its good sides, but it also means even when there's a shit tradition resisting all the warnings of how shit it is until something finally goes so wrong its shitness can't be avoided any more.

It really is. It is 100% the GOP here in the US that block ANY regulation to stop the eating or handling of dangerous animals or any hunting regulations at all really screaming " It is my god given birth right of my forefathers to do whateverthehelliwant!!!! "and waving their yellow " don't tread on me flags!! while they go ahead and eat their snakes, armadillo's possums, and squirrel brains and could care less if it kills them or spreads disease to others. They often seem to think that their right to endanger others is more important than the rights of others to not having their whim's imposed upon them. Oh and if ANYONE else so much as annoys them with something they did, they ALSO seem to think they have the right to shoot them for annoying them, because you know, what they want is the only thing that matters here.

It is ironic though that it is the same guys in the US who want to go kill and eat whatever they want that are ALSO the one's calling it the " Chinese virus" and blaming them for doing the same thing they do here.

Seriously though most hunters in the US do not even know they can get a disease from the animals they are hunting or be infecting their families and even when they do, it makes no impact on their habits, but they expect others to do so in a far away land because it doesn't affect their own habits personally. If they are the one's who are expected to change, all hell breaks loose.
