So I was checking out ModDB earlier today when one of the featured mods caught my undivided attention; a fan remake of the classic Star Wars space sim X-Wing using the Unity engine.

To say I'm psyched for this is probably an understatement. In my humble opinion, the X-Wing games are still some of the finest Star Wars games ever made. I'd be lying if I said the original was my favorite (Tie Fighter was the pinnacle of the series for me), but it's still a classic. Besides, it's the simplest game of the bunch in terms of gameplay mechanics, ship variety and mission design, which undoubtedly makes it the easiest to convert.
I'm loving the combination of old and new features, like updating the targeting computer to be more like X-Wing: Alliance while still retaining the dynamic soundtrack of the original. Best of all, there's a chance this won't be C&D'd by Disney or LucasFilm, as users will have to own some form of the official game to play it. Apparently any version will work, from the original floppies all the way to the digital releases (friendly reminder; you can pick X-Wing up for cheap and optimized for modern systems from GOG).

(The audio gradually gets out of sync, but you get the picture)
