long story short: I was planning on buying the new 250 gig slim 360 and a mate said I should get the 4 gig instead, since I'm moving around fairly often so Live is not that big a deal for me, I could upgrade it to a 250 gig with an external drive and the 60 quid difference can be spent on games.

my question is: what's really the difference between the 250 gig 360 and the 4 gig one (apart from the size of the drive) and what's the drive used for (except storing saved games and game user profile data thingamajigs)?

Found the consoles on Amazon UK 250 here [http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003NSBMF8/ref=s9_simh_gw_p63_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1X8PSVE75BHASTFHY8H2&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294] and 4 here [http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003UTUBQG/ref=s9_simh_gw_p63_i2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1X8PSVE75BHASTFHY8H2&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294]

Also found THIS [http://www.game.co.uk/Consoles/Xbox-360/Xbox-360-4GB-with-NFS-Shift-Mass-Effect-2-and-Prince-of-Persia-The-Forgotten-Sands/~r351088/?d=1z13fvgZ1z13mmvZ1z13w71] ~~ a 4 gig 360 + NFS Shift + Mass Effect 2 + POP for 159 quid (thought it might be the best bundled deal)

so... ideas or suggestions anyone?

Oh sweet Jesus, man! Get the 250! I had the 15 Gig and that crap filled up fast. I was constantly deleteing stuff to make room. When the 4GB launched, most of the GameStop employee's I'm friend's with were disappointed and tried to suggest people away from it. If you're getting NOTHING but just playing your games, I suppose that's fine then. But if you're getting ANYTHING that's not on a disc, such as DLC, xbox live (in the future), etc. The drive houses demos, addons, you name it. In fact, the GTA IV add on BoGT was about 1 full GB, just for that.

Do yourself a favor and go big man, or at least be ready to upgrade to a 60 / 120 soon after you get your 360.

Can you buy the 250gb HDD separate? Or even put an old 120gb in the Slim by removing the casing?

If you don't plan on downloading any music, shows, demos, or full games you might be able to get away with a 4 GB, but if you have a lot of games it'll be a close run thing.

don't have a lot of time to play stuff nowadays, I'm mostly getting it for a handful of games ~~ and yeah, I was planning on upgrading to a 250 drive later this year so I take it you can swap for a bigger drive?

I cannot understand why anyone would want a 4GB HD. I still have my pro model with its 20GB HD, and while it's not a major problem, it is rather inconvenient trying to manage my DLC and XBLA games.

If you're serious about video games (and everyone here typically is), you are going to need that extra HD space VERY SOON after your purchase.

if you don't download demos, a ton of xbl games or other dlc the 4g will do fine. but it'll fill up fast when doing the activities mentioned above.
you wont encounter problems if you use it for saved games and the occasional expansion.
so it depends, the more the better if you have the money though

250GB if you plan on downloading at all. I started with a 20GB and with Rock Band on hand I filled that thing up fast. I'm on a 60GB now and have maybe 10GB of free space left over after DLC and I tend to get rid of demos after a while and those can be upwards of 2GB sometimes.

I traded in my 60gb 360 for my new 250gb. It is way quieter and it wont heat up on you like the original, you could cook eggs on that thing!

Buy the 4Gb bundle first, then buy a new HDD later,if you're lucky you could find a decent third party HDD for Xbox360 slim,it's a lot cheaper than the Microsoft's except that their warranty is worse.

Beside, you don't really need to get 250gb HDD,you could do with 120gb,unless you want to install every games.
