As promised, we dug some more information regarding the upcoming Windows 8 feature which will allow users to play Xbox 360 games on their PC?s.

According to our sources, Xbox 360 on PC will have a subscription fee (just like Xbox Live). However, when it comes to online gaming, it will use Windows Live Marketplace and as a result, PC owners will not be able to compete against console owners (at least in initial stage), due to plausible frustrations (mouse vs. controller).

Still just a rumor, but an interesting one. Personally, I don't like it; I have no interest in paying for an Xbox live account on my PC just to use Xbox games. Fuck you and your service Microsoft. I'll stick to PC gaming proper.

On the other hand, this could make Xbox 360 a much more versatile option to its chief competitors and offer new ways of access for Xbox players. For Xbox users, this could be a good thing.

What does the forum think?

Its... Possible, but does not seem likely.

Accessibility on a windows platform would open windows for more accessible piracy. Also it seems like a massive confliction with their PC gaming platform. Even more of one than the 360 by itself.

Its possible.. But it seems more like mostly rumor.

That seems utterly redundant to me, i mean why would the ever cash-hungry Microsoft release firmware that would allow users to bypass a piece of hardware that is seemingly designed to fail after 4 years of useage?

Im calling BS on this.

I guess it's possible, and it's very likely that they are experimenting with the idea, or at least have in the past, which could be where the rumours originate from. I doubt we'll ever actually see such a functionality become available however.

As long as it doesnt change my PC gameing experience then i say bring it on. Oh and it would be good if pc vs xbox play were made then they were seperated onto opposing teams :p

Umm sorry but are you kidding?

Because Microsoft wont jump at the chance to make only 360 discs and force you to pay them money to play online on thier operating system.

What I want to know is the subscription is just for online play or to use the service completely? If the former they can go shove the idea back to whatever hell hole it came from. The latter wouldn't be all too bad as long as the money went to maintaining game servers and didn't line the pockets of already extremely rich people but I'm hoping for too much here ain't I?

It's doubtful that scenario would eventuate. It makes me cringe nonetheless, because there are enough services taking away from the time that I get to spend enjoying myself in-game, and similar services offered on PC don't require a subscription fee. Granted, it's for Xbox games and I think such a system would be great for Xbox users who might be looking for more versatility from their chosen 'brand', but I don't want that being an excuse for Microsoft to constrict PC gaming, which is quite healthy at this point in time.

This would be really interesting to see. Easily exploitable though, Microsoft won't like that. But I've heard rumors of very, very basic 360 emulators popping up that can run a few basic 360 games. I dunno :/

I detect a lack of sense-making in the statement above.

An interesting rumor, but not one that I really like. Given the track record that MS has on PC gaming (everyone had fun with GFWL?), this will probably turn out badly. So many of the X360 games show up on PC anyway that the service is almost pointless if there is no cross-platform play.

Oh, it's a good thing...once it gets cracked. I'm sure those with the knowledge will do this for fun and exploitable services.

Nevertheless, at least MS are (might be) thinking about the gamers.

emulators have to simulate the hardware of the console in addition to the software, that takes a lot more resources than you might think, so while a middle class PC today out-performs any console emulating them is another deal.

If there are fees involved, I can't see PC players flocking to use any such service. Also, if it is as clunky and intrusive as GFWL, then Microsoft can go fuck itself. Hardly anyone got anything out of that system and it just made it harder to enjoy your games. I couldn't enjoy DOW II without Microsoft trying to rub its dick in my face.

It would greatly expand their userbase, at the very least. Now they wouldn't even need to try and sell a 300$ console to people to start playing their games, they can just use their computers (which everyone has already anyway).

As for how I feel about this.. sounds nifty I suppose, but we need more details before I can decide what to think.

God that would be totally hilarious. Not only would piracy become even more rampant than it is, it would basically destroy the need to own a 360, since even a computer you purchase from Wal-Mart is probably more powerful than a 360 straight from the box (which is the entire purpose of "expanding your user base," I suppose). Too bad there are no 360 games I have any interest in, and there are are a grand total of like 2 games that are 360 exclusives. Guess it's nice for the folks who only own a PC, since they'll get to play console exclusives now.

I feel really bad for anyone who purchased a 360 if this rumor turns out to be true, because they are basically totally boned.

Well lets all hope common sense overrides Microsofts endless search for more money.

Also rethinking this subject made me ask why thier doing this. I mean anyone buying 360 games would already have an Xbox and anyone with a PC capable of playing those games will just buy the PC version.

I have come to the conclusion that Microsofts next console will be a PC in the guise of a console. It's something to think and maybe hope for.

It's something I may actually pay for, if and only if it continued to the next Xbox as well. It would make a nice alternative to buying the console itself, depending on pricing plan and whatnot.

That said, I find it to be extremely unlikely. They'd basically eliminate all of their carefully constructed anti-piracy measures with a move like this, and it strikes me as rather ridiculous.

You say that like it's not what they already are. Consoles are already PCs, the difference between them is that consoles have shittier hardware, you can't upgrade them, and the operating system is aggravating for anything aside from immediately playing games.

Hell, for a while the PS3 literally was a computer, until they removed the OtherOS functionality.

Good point. It's a shame they limit themselves so much. The Xbox and PS3 could have so much more included. Hell I'd be happy if Microsoft just added IE to the 360 and let me switch between it and the game I'm currently playing. It would mean I don't have to watch videos in 3 minute bits and run between the PC and my Xbox. AltTab it's the 1 thing that makes putting up with low or medium graphics settings worth it.

Also may have derailed the topic just a little. XD
