Xbox Live Save Overwrite?

Hi, I got Xenoverse on xbox 360 earlier, in the form of a physical disc. I sold the physical disc back to gamestop and am now considering buying it on the digital storefront, as I have felt a desire to play it again recently. My question is this: If I buy the digital version on xbox live, does it overwrite my save, or do I keep the old save data?

Have you tried backing up your save file to a USB stick [http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/accessories/using-usb-flash-drive]? If that works then there should be minimal risk.
