So Major Nelson recently announced the latest free game for gold members and it's an old arcade title. For those of you who don't know Microsoft announced they were giving away games for free 2 times a month until a specific date.

They stated titles such as Halo 3 and AC2 would be available...and then they give us a tower defence arcade game that used to sell for 800MSP.

Initally I thought that they were just emulating the PSN thing and that if something is free then it can't be bad right? Then it was obvious that they would only release old titles that were popular AND that contain a lot of DLC/sequels that are still relatively expensive just to squeeze some money out of it.

I honestly can say that I'm not surprised, it feels like the free games after the PSN being hacked: all just one giant upsell to buy DLC or sequels.

What are your thoughts, am I being parranoid, should I just enjoy free stuff, etc.

Wait, wait, wait... so instead of either Assassin's Creed 2, or Halo 3, which I do agree I thought was going to be coming out in July, they're releasing THAT? ...you know, it would be a little silly of me to criticize, given I and many others have pointed out that they're offering titles that have no doubt already been owned by a great many people, but nonetheless... damn... this seems even WORSE somehow. o_O

Seriously!?! Man microsoft do sony have to make an instructional video for you for this too? Couldn't afford anything better from all those ads littered on the dashboard. Better stop my post here or else it'll just turn into a large list of hate for microsoft.

I honestly cant understand why people would pay for Ads on the Xbox. Every time I turn on my Xbox 360 there is just ads everywhere. When I turn the PS3 on on the other hand there is ONE icon which causes GAME related ads (ie things I might actually be interested in) to scroll down the right side. Once I move off that icon there are no ads anywhere on the whole system. Its just the things I want like my games

Yeah, trying to announce any good news about the Xbox franchise on this site isn't going to end well for you.

That said those games are rather pathetic compared to PS+ recent releases.

Judging from the backlash on the comments section of Nelson's blog post, they might have to extend Games for Gold another three or six months to compensate. o_O What I think is irritating folks more is that Microsoft's PR department muuust have known that the media, and many of the gamers, were expecting those two titles to be released first, but they didn't bother to release a statement refuting it until less than 24 hours before they had to pay up.
