I've benn browsing the escapist for a bit, watching shows, reading forums and whatnot, and i've come to the realization of the enormous sway that Z.P. has on this site. The shows extra credits, escape to the movies, and big picture all draw heavily from the cartoony minimalistic style of Zero Punctuation and, of all of them, on very few occasions make statements that conflict with points made by Croshaw.
Also, while reading the forums I have noticed that people who make points that are in-line while comments made on Z.P. (while is quite often) a significant portion of the time people will argue thier stance using the EXACT same points and often the exact same wording as a particular episode of zero punctuation.
Maybe some people disagree with me a little here but i dont think anyone doubts the influence he has on this community. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah, he influences those who are easily influenced. Not really a big surprise though, as those types of people tend to be easy to influence.

Most people found out about this site because of his videos, so you conclusions will come as a shock to nobody.

I get the point about people cribbing his statements and ideas instead of using their own, but then people are just like that. That's what you do when you're young, easily influenced and still forming a personality of your own - you steal someone else's. It's the same reason memes are so popular.

Some people are just sheep. Nothing you can do.
Besides: Extra Credits is better than ZP.

I keep track of Extra Credits more so than ZP now. ZP is an afterthought now, dick jokes get old after the 100th time.

You know, I've seen some reviews on IGN, Gamefaqs, and Gametrailers that express similar views. If not in the same words.

They must be copying Yahtzee.

Yeah, and I think the reason quite a few of the people on these forums can be assholes is because they're trying to "be like Yahtzee".

I hate the guy from Extra Credits. He finds meaning where there is none. Sure, he's had a job in the gaming industry, that doesn't give him a reason to be so god damned pretentious.

This. All of it.

I came to this site because of ZP, but I watch the show more for the humor, as often I disagree with his points or think he's exaggerating things to make a joke. So I don't personally follow his influence. As for his style of show, I love it and think it works equally well in Extra Credits and Escape to the Movies, so I'm glad to see it having some influence there.

If only lack of creativity was an issue solely with the young.

Please don't believe something like that. When I'm an asshole, that's just who I am; not Yahtzee. If you say something like that, others may believe it, and that won't be very nice.

Yeah I guess. Then again a lot of the points he makes are valid. But if he doesn't like a game I do like, then I'm going still play and enjoy my game.

I'm sorry to reply with just a link, but your comment reminded me of this:

Not to mention that annoying reverb effect gets pretty damn grating. I wouldn't consider him "pretentious", just a bit too keen on seeing what he wants.

Zero Punctuation is great. It's following, however, is not. Unfortunately it taints my view of it because sooo many people around here treat it like gospel and that Yahtzee is the second coming.

What I'm starting to hate even more is the people who are "too cool" for it and now must flock to Extra Credits and make a point to tell everyone when ever Zero Punctuation is brought up. It's irrelevant and seems oddly hipsterish. Which I find hilarious.

Many people in this community are probably fans of ZP, which is why they're here in the first place, so they must like/agree with him at least a little bit. It's not surprising that his fans want to emulate him, and as for using all his arguments against other people, well, if they agree with him, then they're going to adopt his opinions as their own. As for the style of videos, I imagine that they're produced by the same people, who want to keep things consistent. Besides, it's not as if that style doesn't work.

Hahahaha. Excellent first post. X people are X.

OT: I only reference populare culture for social reasons (it's easier and can improve the general atmosphere by making a joke using a shared cultural experience, so I quote HIMYM around my brother, Lazer Collection/PowerThirst/WKUK aroud my friends and point to scenes in shared favourite T.V. shows when talking to people I know enjoy them (though I'm careful to be minimal in my usage, as excess usage defeats the purpose of using it at all)).

See, I'm a manipulator, but in a benevolent way.

I noticed he has quite a large influence over peoples choices. He also has a lot of fangirlies and boys who cling to his every word like [insert Yahtzee analogy] and act like he's the end word on everything, and those are the worst kind. Because you know they are having a hard time making it through their gaming hobby, and perhaps some of their life, without thinking, WWYD. What Would Yahtzee Do?

As for me? I am avid watcher, I enjoy his comedy and critiques, he makes me laugh and I sometimes take away from his review, but he also hates about half of the games I play and enjoy. But that doesn't deter me from playing or enjoying my games, because after all this time I know what I like and what I think is fun.

I watch ZP just for the fun of it, and I don't really take anything he says seriously. He's a critic, so he needs to nit-pick his way through every single game. But when you need to argue with fanboys, then his arguments are basically "ammo" for your usage.
You can't stop people taking his stance, though. Easily swayed people are easily swayed.

There seems to be a bit of a running theme on the Escapist:

"Come for Zero Punctuation, stay for everything else."

I bet a fair few of the members here came through Zero Punctuation and ZP probably pulls in a lot of traffic, so it's to be expected that Yahtzee has his influence here.

I was mostly concerned with the people expressing the same points with the same words. Agreeing with Yahtzee isnt hard, he makes some good points... some.
